Her lectures are good, but exams will require you to work. She now uses a textbook that you MUST buy for online listening examples. You also MUST read the book if you want an A. She goes really fast and can forget some things. You MUST show up to lectures, nothing is posted online and don't rely on others to provide you! You MUST study for exams!

Avoid taking Dr. Baker if at all possible. She is a horrible teacher. She is very full of pride. She expects students to know WAY too much information on the exams, and isn't very clear on exactly what will be on exams. She gives a study guide but 95% of the info on the study guide isn't on the exam. She grades incredibly harsh as well.

Awful teacher. Zero multiple choice tests and she counted spelling on obscure European composers in long answer form. I was one of many to complain to the dean of fine arts but she had tenure.

Expects you to know a lot of things so it is difficult for people with no knowledge in music. Powerpoints are not online and the exams barely relate to them. Huge part of scoring is the listening examples, which are hard to remember. Have to go to three outside concerts and do reports. Online textbook required.

Her class was interesting. I love her personality. She is really spunky and funny. But she is quite disorganized and the exams were difficult because of the listening examples. For those, you have to know the name of the piece, who wrote it, what period it came from, etc. The class was interesting but a lot of information was covered in each exam.

Moves way, WAY too fast during lectures, and rude about needing to go back to previous slides. Doesn't post powerpoints yet expects you to copy them down as well as her verbal lecture itself. Don't dare miss a day of lecture because she will not help you obtain notes you missed. Good performer, not a great instructor. Avoid taking her.

She is passionate about music but the class is hard for anyone that has no music background, I think she expects us to know a lot of things. the exams are difficult and a lot is based on listening. powerpoints are not online. only thing saving my grade is that she curves the grade by a whole letter at the end of the semester.

Very difficult teacher. Full of energy and is helpful if you have questions, but has a tendency to get carried away with pride over how difficult she makes her class. She obviously likes attention and is always very vibrant during class. This class takes an unfair amount of time and detracts from more important studies. Don't know how I passed.

Pretty much like everyone else said, Dr. Baker is very passionate about what she is teaching. She knows what she is doing and knows how to teach it. The class itself requires a lot of reading and studying. It will be extremely difficult for those who are not great with history. She is willing to help. Great professor!

Dr. Baker is one of the best teachers I have had at Cal State Fullerton. She knows her stuff! Dont ever miss class and study ahead of time and you'll survive. The class is hard but she makes it hard to fail, unless you're lazy! She really is a stellar teacher and her class was a great experience.

Dr. Baker is a wonderful and encouraging woman. She has a tendency to be unclear on her study guides, but she is very helpful in office hours with any little question. Read the book, it can make a difference on tests. Study far in advance, especially the listening. She doesn't try to make it hard, she just wants you to learn! And she will help.

The good news is that she's very comical, enthusiastic, and full of life. Very much like a stand-up comedian. On a more serious note, sometimes she's unclear with what EXACTLY is going to be on the exam. She will make every attempt to help you. E-mail her a question and she will respond within an hour. Overall, great professor.

Let me put it this way. She's tough, but fair. If you want help, she's always more than happy to see her students during office hours. She's prompt with e-mail questions. I believe she's an excellent lecture professor. Take good notes, work hard, finish the term paper, and you'll surely pass the class. If anyone fails, they didn't try hard enough.

Probably my favorite teacher of my entire college career. Knows her stuff (guys, it's music history, and certain things are up for debate, and she makes that clear), and at the same time conducts THE MOST ENTERTAINING class I have ever been in. I am neither a singer nor a suckup- in fact, I'm not even a music major- and I got A grades.
