Great teacher, does a good job of explaining what at times can be complicated. He also manages to be well humored. VERY FAIR grading, is even willing to allow people to convince him to give higher grade. Take his course.

Easy if youre into philosophy, otherwise you'll have to learn to read things literally. He talks monotone but he's funny. if he marks you wrong you can convince him otherwise. 2 page paper every week, but it is basically a summary of a short article. Need book 4 hw, copies in library. Need 2 show 2 turn in assignments, no attendance, I think.

High textbook use, but it's a great book (9780195396256 The Moral Life). Professor knows his subject! Participate in class discussion - it helps with understanding and makes it interesting for everyone. Very helpful and supportive professor. Make an effort and he'll encourage you any way he can. Highly recommended.

The material in this class is difficult, but the text is really good and Dr. Borton is more than willing to go over it as many times as anyone needs him to. 4 short papers, weekly quizzes, a midterm and a final, plus a few weekly exercises from the book. Attending class and doing the exercises are crucial to understanding. Great teacher.

this class was easy, except the big tests which were a little off topic. class was once a week and had a quiz everytime. and theres no right or wrong on the answer of the quizzes, you just give your opinion but you have to stay on topic and know what you are talking about, so just put attention in class or do the readings you supposed to every week

Class was easy for me, but I love Philosophy. Ease of material may depend on student interest, but anyone who pays attention should be able to pass the class. Professor knows his subject very well, is more than willing to go over it to clarify, and gives structured lectures. Good instructor, helpful, and approachable.

Not a good teacher. I was very interested in taking this class at the beginning but was very disappointed. He takes half an hour trying to explain a concept to you and forgets what he was saying half way through. If your interested in taking this class, find a different teacher. This guy is just not worth the effort.

This is one hard class. how does 3 questions, 200 pt. tests sound? Lectures are extremely boring and he rambles off topic every day. His teaching ability is alright but I would avoid him at all costs.

This guy was so boring. He rambles on when he tried explaining a subject to the point where you dont even know what he is talking about. His quizzes have nothing to do with the reading he assigns. Avoid this professor if you can.

Mr. Borton is the most boring professor I have ever had. He doesn't even seem to know where he is at any given time. Whats worse is it takes him all class to make a point, so a lot of time is wasted. He can take interesting topics like the Death Penalty and turn them into a snore-fest. He contradicts himself, in that he treats us as a means.

This class is sooo hard, there were only like 5 people left in his class, and the class was full at the beginning of the semester. Avoid this class. Take my advise and take someone else.

Anyone who says he isn't a good teacher simply doesn't like the subject of philosophy. There is nothing wrong with the professor, the class is quite easy.

The only reason this guy has a job at OCC, must be because he has tenure. This is why I don't believe in tenure. This guy should be fired and shouldn't be allowed to teach. He needs to find a new career. The only reason he teaches, is cause he can't find another job,and thanks to tenure, teaching is a easy permanent paycheck for him.

This is class is horrible. He does not teach. He reads out of the book. You have to go to class because of the quizzes that you have every day that are essay format.

Very hard and monotonous. Quizzes are not informative and do not prepare enough for the Midterms which are 250 points out of 1,000 so basically half the grade is on a midterm which is essay format.

Do not take his course. First, he teaches you on his lectures... And if you have the personal fortitude to be able to stay awake and follow his lecture, you'll learn even more from a better teacher. He will play devil's advocate so you can never be right, and will argue your own point back to you that you just made claiming it as his own. Avoid!

I thought Mr Borton was a pretty cool guy and a good teacher. He wasn't always enthusiastic but he was always willing to help. Critical thinking is a difficult and sometimes boring class, but you do learn alot that can be used in real life! His tone is monotonous but he has a good sense of humor.

Borton needs to go back to school and learn to teach. If you don't want to teach, don't be a teacher. When someone chooses to become a teacher, it's because they want to teach others and help them learn. If you became a teacher just for the paycheck, then find a new career! Borton thinks the world revolves around him! He thinks he's above everyone!
