Garns made this class interesting. Ive seen a lot of people write on here that hes confusing, but I didnt really see it. Hes extremely intelligent and sometimes I think that gets the best of him in his teaching style. As long as you show up to class each day and participate, this class isnt too hard.

Hes cool, except never really gives full credit on anything... I like the content a lot but I think if I didnt, I might not like him as much. He does a lot of reflection papers, which I can never seem to get full credit on. Weekly discussions on Canvas which get very old, very fast when people dont know what theyre talking about.

This class made me actually love philosophy. I love how he makes you think and discuss. It is not an easy class, but I loved it. I didn't do well on one quiz and that brought my grade down to a B which I was upset about and wished I could have earned the points back in some way, but he does not consider that an option. I still enjoyed the class

I attended every lecture and participated actively. Come the second exam, I answered one of two free response questions with relevant discussion from the lectures. But apparently I "misunderstood" the question somehow. I was given a 0%. ZERO. The same grade I would have gotten if I hadn't taken the test at all. Do yourself a favor and run far away.

This class made me actually like philosophy. True, the readings are often long and unintelligible, but you can ask questions the next day in class. The discussion really helps, because he clarifies the meanings of the readings and you can ask questions and share opinions. Sometimes people do talk too much about nothing and detract from class.

This guy is a joke. He forced the class to buy a rip-off textbook that was a reprint of a cheaper book with his personal cover slapped on for a more expensive price than the actual author's work. He used a cheap-o computer program to teach/do homework. He totally phoned this in and should be ashamed to have stolen students tuition on this sham.

took this class thinking it'd be fun. He made this class much harder than it needed to be, all the articles had to be read dozens of times, new articles every class, response papers every class. I would ask him questions, answers always had wiggle because he wasn't confident in his ability. grades in a 4 point scale, said he expects a 2 on average

The only professor I've ever had who can motivate his students to think both critically and with creative intellectual abandon. The man was born to teach.

This isn't a gen. ed. to take if you want an easy skate through class. An extremely hard grader who self-admittedly rarely gives people 80% or above. Very informational though if you are interested in Philosophy.

All readings online. challenging, but you can make it if you try. You will learn a lot. He is very intelligent, and if you think otherwise it's because you didn't actually try in his class or ask for help.

Excellent; encouraged class discussion as well as online debate via class forum. Don't quite understand the more frequent criticisms on him here; I pegged him to be an atheist and quite knowledgable about the subject matter at hand. I think those who speak ill of him don't understand the nature of PHI. Really look at the subject before taking it.

This was my favorite class of all the classes I was taking. You don't have to buy any textbooks...the readings are online. He is very into class discussion and I loved his class setup it was very simple and I knew what to expect. He is brilliand and a good guy all around. He wants his students to learn to think for themselves critically.

Horrible he is all about twitter and facebook. He is more about becoming popular then teaching and had no grading scale. He just picked a grade at random at the end of the semester.

Professor Garns's class was pathetic. The readings were all online, so I didn't have to buy a textbook, but even to a near straight A honor student like me, they were difficult to understand. He is also no help whatsoever, and will argue just for the sake of arguing. His grading is incomprehensible, and he does not explain it upon request.

Class was hard to get into and it made me realize I do not like Philosophy. Other than that, the professor looks for student discussion and will answer questions when asked. Class involves writing 9 reaction papers and 3 exams, which are 2 essays.

He's an awesome guy! Being a Philosophy teacher, there's a lot about personal opinion and reasoning, but you learn a great deal in this class, and he never makes you feel like you're wrong and therefore dumb. Fun class, fun discussions, very interesting! I recommend it!

Wow...I'm pretty sure I got dumber from taking his class. I dropped out after a couple of weeks just because I could not stand him. All he wants is personal opinions...I'm paying the school to learn something not to hear what some kid thinks about life. Sorry...I guess if you're into philosophy it'd be a pretty easy class, but if not stay FAR AWAY
