Do not take him!! he is a good man and definitely smart, but his teaching skills are so outdated!! There is a reason his classes are always open. He's a good guy at heart, but a horrid professor to be honest. It's EXTREMELY unclear as to what will be on the exam, and the actual exam is pretty tough. Harsh multiple choice questions where he picks out SMALL details from notes that are largely irrelevant. Notes are very unorganized, and the general material isn't easy to get. Avoid him.

Raise your hand = your his favorite. Speak while he's talking = your grade is bound to be bashed. Listen to his lectures while not reading the book = its possible to pass with a "C." Read the book throroughly and sleep during the lectures = you could pass with a "B." Basically, the tests are 80% from the book and 20% from the lecture I assure you.

Dr. Samatar is a good professor. If you go to his class, take notes, pay ATTENTION what he says, and read his outlines you can do well. For the exams the only thing that you have to do is studied his notes and his outlines and definitely you can get an A. You don?t need read the whole chapters for his exams.

Do not take his class!!! Prof.Samatar is very bias and plays favorites. He is unorganized and most of the test comes from the book which is very hard to understand. He says attendance is mandatory but I missed enough classes and got a B. Only take his class if you are willing to suck up and become one of his favorites.

The syllabus could have used more fleshing out, but Professor Samatar is easy to understand and approachable. You may have to do some of the approaching yourself, as it was somewhat difficult to get him to set exam dates. Recommend!

This class stunk. The professor talked about stuff that had NOTHING to do with the exams. After the midterm, continuous attendance was not manditory. Go to him before the exam and force him to tell you exactly what's on the exam. I felt like this should have been an e-learning course. The lectures were useless! BUY THE BOOKS!!

Great Professor --- very knowledgable...he's also super nice...we only had two tests...the midterm and final, and they were a piece of cake, given that you attend all of his classes, and read the assigned material...he's definitely worth taking!
