Looking back on my education at HWS, Intro to Philosophy & Early Modern Philosophy were the two greatest contributors to my success. We read Descartes, Hume, Galileos Daughter, touched upon Ryle. Class was open discussion & relaxed. If youre going to take 1 Philosophy class in addition to Intro, I would recommend this.

Professor Brophy was one of the most frustrating professors I've had. He takes forever to grade papers, taking 2 months to get us 1 grade back. Not to mention there is very few grades in the class so it goes downhill pretty quickly. If you are not passionate about philosophy, I would not recommend this course.

Prof Brophy is a great mentor through difficult text. I took Early Modern Philosophy with him and Descartes became modern, enjoyable and almost easy. It was one of my best classes at Hobart we talked together as a group with him as our guide. I learned a lot in this class.

Prof. Brophy is well respected and liked by students. We covered some important Early Modern texts and had interesting discussion. Prof. Brophy is personable and if you are looking to use philosophy as a means to go to law school or even think critically, this class is a solid choice.

Professor Brophy is a great professor. I signed up for a philosophy class because it was all that fit into my schedule, and coming out of the class I now want to possibly major in philosophy. If you think you might be interested in philosophy I highly recommend taking a course with Brophy.

Great course. Makes philosophy come alive. Brophy is a tough proff but nice guy and really funny if you get his dry sense of humor. Don't try to BS or he will call you on it.

The best professor at HWS. Makes philosophy fun and can explain really abstract theories things soooo clearly. Incredibly organized and knowledgable but involves the whole class in discussions. Knew all 28 of us by name the first week and the comments on the 5 papers were unbelievably helpful. Awesome at teaching writing.
