Comment:

He's gotten easier over the years, but his exams and classes overall are still too in the details. He spends way too much time going through countless examples in his slides, and the exams feel like a game of remembering random details and examples from the slides, rather than testing understanding of the important concepts.

Comment:

Professor clearly doesn't care about the content he's teaching. Leaves out any detail that might matter later. will test you on harder concepts that he only covered in 5 mins of lecture and had no homework over. his test questions are fuzzy at best and lack detail needed to answer. Would not take another class with him as a professor.

Dr. Cho is a good professor and I feel he deserves a better rating than he currently has. He understands the material and will work through examples on the whiteboard in greater detail if needed. All assignment requirements were clearly defined and he pretty much tells you exactly what to study to prepare for exams, which aren't bad if you study.

This was by far the best CS class I've taken. Dr. Cho knows what he's talking about and if he doesn't know something, he will research it and provide an answer. Great class and challenging.

Comment:

This is a great class for theory. The first half was better than the second half, but the second half was dedicated to implementation and not theory so boredom will set in. The tests and quizzes are not easy but he tells you what will be on them so they are definitely manageable with a bit of effort.

Dr. Cho truly cares about his students and will go to great lengths to see them succeed. Cho's classes are tough, but that's what a CS degree means. You will leave his class truly learning something, a great complement to our department. Definitely take his classes when you have a chance.

If you approach this class to learn, not to just get credit, then this is a good class. He covers a lot of important concepts and gives relevant homework. You'll come out of the class having a lot better grasp on the material.

If you want to learn software engineering, Dr. Cho is your instructor. A lot of students complain about his harsh grading, but they are things that would be required of you in the real world. A common complaint is mark downs for inconsistent formatting, but your text editors or IDEs will do it for you...

Cho is a good professor. CIS majors complain about him. But if you're a CS major and you know what you're doing, you'll appreciate Cho a lot. He's one of the few profs that actually knows what he's talking about. He should be rated much higher on this site.

If you have a general interest in programming and Java, you will enjoy this class. I don't understand why he has such bad reviews. He knows what he's talking about, he knows the material, and he uses Java heavily. His tests are difficult if you don't know the nit picky details of Java, but he gives old exams and those are plenty enough.

He knows a ton about Java but is unable to effectively teach. I strongly recommend meeting him frequently during his office hours to go over assignments. He will say things like Many students did this but I'm not sure if it will work all the time so I took 10% off but if you come to me and prove that it is perfect I will give you some points back.

cho is soooo bad.. his grading is 100% inconsistant. he is never to class on time. and when i go he teaches less than if i stayed home and slept for 3 hours.. his exams are over sh*t he never covers and he grades horrificly... you can have no errors at all on your program and he will mark you down for having whitespace between lines... HAHA over it

I've had Cho once and am not looking forward to having him again. Emailed him one day letting him know I had the flu and he said I could turn my program in the next day. When I got it back he marked me off 10% for being late. I asked him about it and he said he usually takes 20% off but generously marked me 10% since I was sick.

I don't understand why this guy has such a bad rating on here. So here's whats up: He's very knowledgeable, especially OO wise. His assignments are pretty easy and do-able. Only issue I had was his CS420 Final exam was BS and had some BS questions on it. Still got good grade in the class. He's a jerk. I find it hilarious. I have tough skin though.
