The sad thing is that he is really sweet and funny. This class shouldve been easy but it ended up being my most difficult one. You spend the entire class taking notes for no reason, the notes dont relate to the exams. The exams are over additional reassigns that arent talked about in class. His test questions are very vague and difficult.

He was super sweet but that being said I HATED his class. He got off topic a ton and was very opinionated over a lot of things. He also creates tricky tests over a book that HE wrote. He thinks everyone in this class is an anthropology major and has past information. Definitely wouldn't take him again. Friendly man though, I know he meant no harm.

Dr. Metress surely loves what he does, and his lectures are pretty straight forward. His textbook is by him and cheap at the Rockets bookstore. A downside is that his tests are 10 short answer questions and the questions are vaguely worded. There are 2 papers (10 pages each) to write on novels assigned during the semester. Take notes!

He is opinionated and left leaning, so if you don't like hearing about him ranting about conservative policies don't take the class. Had 2 book reports 10 pages long. 5 tests total, final was NOT cumulative so if you can get by memorizing and forgetting the info you'll be fine. No homework. No blackboard use, must attend lecture. Tests MUST STUDY!

Despite the fact that Dr. Metress isn't a bad guy, I absolutely hated his course. The lectures were mostly his long, tedious rants trying to indoctrinate you into environmentalism. His tests required you to memorize the textbook he wrote word for word, all free response. We didn't even really talk much about different cultures. Avoid at all costs.

Lecture intesive & old school professor, but well worth it. Full of interesting stories. You work for your grade - not an easy A, but you WILL learn a lot. Sometimes, his wife lectures, and she is a real gem, too. Super inspirational and #goals. Doesn't use Blackboard, so be sure to use his office hours. Gives good feedback. Clear grading criteria.

Metress is a knowledgeable professor with many great stories from his youth and really loves what he does. This class is very lecture heavy and you NEED to attend and take notes. Textbook is self written and cheap. The 2 papers are lengthy of 8-12 pages. You MUST study to pass. 4 exams all short answers. Great professor overall, just STUDY!

Dr. Metress is one of my favorite professors at Toledo. He tells amazing stories that relate to what we are learning about which makes me excited to go to class. This class does only have 4 exams all short answers and 2 book reports between 8-12 pages long. If you want to do well in this class, you'll have to work but it's an interesting class.

Dr. Metress is amazing and I loved this class. He's somewhat kooky but he has hilarious stories and is very knowledgeable. He wrote the textbook and you can only buy it at one bookstore. The exams are all extended response, however they match the lecture and his study questions exactly. Grades consist of 4 100 point exams and 2 10-15 page papers

Honestly one of the worst classes I have ever taken at UT. He talks the whole time and doesn't keep the lectures fun. Tests are all short answer, no multiple choice. He looks for word for word answers and is a tough grader. 10/10 do NOT recommend unless you like long, boring lectures.

Dr. Metress class is four exams and two papers. The class is basically lectures and reading the two books. The papers are not hard and most of the students received B's and A's on them. However his test are hard. He gives you 10 FRQ. The only study guide he gives is in the back of the book which are 30-60 questions. Good Luck!

Surprisingly one of my favorites. Talks the whole class and posts nothing on blackboard so notes and attendance are a must. Grade is based on 4 tests, all non cumulative and two 10 page book reports. Even as an 8am I found it interesting and engaging. I used the book (which he wrote himself in NOTE FORM) and it was a piece of cake. Study A

It is very hard to find your grade in the class. He does not like to email about grades, so you have to find time to find him during his office (does not give out office hours). Be prepared to write a ten page paper on different books. If you don't go to class there is no way you will pass.

He is crude and annoying. You get 5 exams a semester and 2 papers. That's it. No extra credit options. Fail an exam or paper and you pretty much fail the class. He knows the material well, but lectures every class, which is annoying. Don't read the book, and don't study for the exams and you are sure to fail. Exams are all essay.

Would never take again. Gives no information in syllabus on a grading scale. You will never know your grade for the course. Him and his wife constantly try to push their beliefs on you. Even if you take good notes and read, you'l probably still do bad because he has no idea how to make tests.

This class is supposed to be an easy diversities class to take and is the complete opposite. The man is 77 years old and has no idea how to ask questions on tests that actually come from the material. If you are not taking other anthro classes and don't know how to analyze the information correctly then you are not going to do well.

Great professor! Took the class for core requirement, and I loved it. He was funny, and tells great stories. Class rarely goes the full time, he gets through everything in good time. Note taking is a must, either bring a laptop or be prepared to write very quickly; he posts nothing on blackboard and uses an overhead projector.
