She's gotten a bad rep, but I think she's awesome. Quizzes are hard and over entire books, but she's flexible and willing to work with students if they have given an honest effort. Also, imho, her questions are super predictable if you've read

You MUST do the readings if you want to do well. Instructor provides study guides for exams and has high expectations but she is a paramount authority on the Middle East and Modern Iran. Anyone with an interest in these topics should take the course but be aware it is not an easy A. You will learn a lot but you really need to manage the readings!

Siavoshi was not intellectually disciplined, she was often late to class, did not pay attention to student presentations, isolated students in class, failed to facilitate class discussion, prepared exams that did not cover material that was relevant to the syllabus, asked bizarre questions on mid-term and finals.

She is an incredible professor and a woman. She knows SO MUCH about everything she teaches, it is a pleasure to listen to her lectures. Extremely demanding, if you want to coast through a class don't take her. She is always prepared, and expects the best from her students and expects them to always be prepared. She pushed me to do better constantly

Comment:
VERY intimidating. Demands attendance, her aggression was off-putting. Expects entire books to be read in a very short amount of time, made for an extremely heavy course load. Tests were fair enough but require a LOT of intense studying for an A. Especially since the works are so dense. Created hw not on syllabus, I did not appreciate that.

I had Dr Siavoshi for State, Society, and Change in the Middle East and it has been the best class I have ever taken at Trinity. She is a fantastic professor: open to discussion (both sides), fair, extremely passionate, and makes you want to do a good job!

Professor Siavoshi is the most incredible professor here at Trinity! Her class, unlike any other, actually made me think and broadened my perspective. Don't listen to any of the bitter students on this site- you do have to work to make an A. If you want an easy A, this class is not for you. She is witty, entertaining, kind, and intelligent.

Very nice woman who obviously cares a great deal about her subject. Overtly liberal, if you're into that. Class involves fair amount of reading, most of which is very interesting, and occasionally a very short paper. Class discussions are frequent and interesting, though she usually controls where it goes.

She was the worst teacher I had in my entire undergraduate career. Made me entirely loose interest in the subject, refused to grade my final-- thought I had plagarized, and didn't even check or believe my protests. I ended up retroactively dropping with permission from the dean.

this woman made me drop my major. that should tell you something.... her tests are extremely difficult. they're all essay and the questions are based on the most obscure topics EVER. i was very interested in poly sci before, but now im quite disenchanted with it.

I loved this class. I'm a poli sci major so that may be why, but I learned a lot. You read a LOT of books & you have to watch some movies outside of class every now and then. Some of the books you can read in a night, but not all of them. She's from Iran so she's a bit one-sided, but I like seeing that perspective. I def. recommend taking the class
