One of my favorite professors! Grade is based 30% off online quizzes, 30% off essays, 20% off class lecture participation, and 20% off the final exam. Intelligent and enjoys making topics more relatable to keep interest in lectures peaked. Is very generous in terms of extra credit- potentially over 20% added to grade. Over 50% of class got an A/B.

Dr. Dolan is so intelligent, but he can make the information easy to understand for everyone. He has lots of experience and the field and is an awesome teacher. If you have an A, you won't have to take the final. The tests are online and short. You will leave the class smarter and able to discuss the topics of the class with ease. A's if you try!

Comment:

As a first time student to CSU, my first class was American Govn't with Dr. Dolan. Although, there was a lot to read in some chapters. He gave interesting topics for papers and discussion board posts. He knows his stuff. The quizzes were challenging for me at times. I learned a lot in this online class. I would take him again!

Knowledgeable! Be prepared to read! There are a few 2-3 paragraph essays, a pre and post quiz and about 14 online/open-book quizzes. So long as you do the reading you WILL pass. I'm not one for politics but after this class I became more interested! Seriously an easy A if you do the work!

Has required readings and knows what he is talking about. He is a great guy and can keep you interested even though the class is boring. The tests are online and they come from the book. He makes the stuff himself and loves the topic.

I took this class over the summer, and I don't feel as though I learned anything. Each week we wrote 2-3 three paragraph essays, 2-3 discussions, and took 2-4 quizzes. Mind you, each chapter is 30-40 pages long, and there were videos to watch for the discussions. He is not sympathetic at all to personal problems.

Great professor. Very fair, consistent in grading, easy to talk to. I would highly highly recommend him. Im not sure why he isnt the head of the MPA program. Dr. Gill sucks. But Dr. Dolan reminds me of some of the professors from UGA but its rare at the school from what Ive seen

I took this class online. The class wasn't hard at all as long as you apply yourself. We did a variety of activities including quizzes, 3 paragraph essays, and discussions. The class is very passable. Be sure to study for quizzes and utilize the hour he gives you to take the quiz. Overall he was a good professor.

I have taken three classes with Dr. Dolan and have always ended up with an A. I really enjoy his lectures he is very interesting guy, but as others have said he is very opinionated, and occasionally makes fun of people that give stupid answers. All in all, he is an easy teacher, but does expect a lot of writing, but grades pretty liberally. I

I would not tell anyone to take a course from this professor. He does know select topics in political science well but seems to lack a passion for the educational process. I took a sophomore level course with him and learned little to nothing that I could not have gotten from studying independently. If you want to take his coures, do reconsider.
