Nice old man. Pretty funny, fairly easy class. Doesn't take much effort to get a good grade. I would recommend this instructor to anyone who doesn't mind an easy class with occasionally dull lectures.

Val is a great teacher. He does go on tangents and make jokes a lot, but they're always relevant to the subject. His class is definitely not the easiest I've ever taken, but pay attention and you should do fine. If my class can serve as any indication, all these poor ratings are coming from slackers who expected an easy A and got burned.

Val does go on tangents quite often but it's relevant to the material. He also loves telling puns and jokes. He's a nice guy and the material can be confusing but if you got to class,take notes read from the books, you will pass easily. He's very intelligent and so it's hard for him to "simplify" his material, just make sure to pay attention!

O Val, I can see how some people might not like him, but I found him hilarious. Be prepared for long-winded diversions, but they are usually funny, and quite often interesting and enlightening in their own right. A lot of the people complaining seem to have taken Logic with him, which I would not recommend, but any other Phil class would be great

Val is a funny guy with some hilarious stories. He's very small and seems to know EVERYONE. He's laid back and as long you read the material, you should do fine. He's not easy on the grading, but he is fair.

Val is a really nice guy, he just teaches in a really confusing style I think. I got lost all the time and so did everyone else in the class. Make sure you go to TA sections... they pretty much teach you. It's how I made it through :)

Horrible teacher. Probably spent a total of 15% of entire class talking on topic. Boring class where I fell asleep almost every class. Almost impossible to pull an A too. Need to read boring literature EVERY class! Would NEVER take again.

Far too brilliant to teach intro logic. His grasp of the subject cannot, and should not, be expressed in a class where students are just beginning to learn the concepts of logic. I would love to take an advanced logic course with him teaching. His "digressions" I feel he does so that students don't get bored from the course's dry subject matter.

by far the WORST teacher i've ever had in my life. absolutely. i cant express how awful he was. yesterday he spent 30 minutes talking about his dog getting sick and throwing up. hmm besides that, i gave up listening to him talk because i learn more from the TA sessions and the CD than his lectures.
