I don't understand why he is so beloved. I was a dedicated History student, who did really well in every class I took, except Zuboks. His lectures make no sense, he gave a paper and when I went to him for help, he told me what I should focus on then trashed the paper. I will never take another class

Dr. Zubock gave me the only B- I have ever gotten in a history class, and I took 21 of them during my time at temple. His reading load is ridiculous, and quizzes and tests have nothing to do with his lectures. Also he is no help in writing your paper. He is the example of a brilliant scholar and terrible teacher.

There was a lot of reading in this class, but the only thing that determines your grade is the Reading Reviews, the Midterm, the Final Paper, and your attendance. I did no reading in this class, but I managed to get mostly B's on the reading review and a B+ (open book) on the midterm. Still waiting for the grade for my final paper though. . .

"Italy needs to worry less about making pasta and more about war." Funny to listen to in class. Large workload from writing papers and reading. Readings are fast, long, and boring unless you're a history buff. The class dates from 1770 to 1970 and 75% of it is based upon war. Zubok is knowledgeable, but wants his students to work... a lot.

Huge workload, interesting guy. He has a habit of agreeing or disagreeing based on the flip of a coin. Ultimately he's a conventional teacher, nothing that worthwhile. Avoid unless you're a real die-hard for the standard dry history class

Zubok is a great guy and extremely knowledgeable. The class was very informative and eye opening, but it was a TON of work. He has no real grading scale- just check, check minus and check plus. So don't expect to know your grade until after it is on your transcript. Also, if you aren't a history-style writer, don't expect an A or A- in the class.

Very interesting and engaging professor, extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his subject. LOTS of readings which translate into LOTS of writing assignments, but if you just put in the work and show him that you are actively thinking and referring to the material, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A

Wasn't a fan of the class, lots of boring reading, with lots of writing based solely on that reading. He does know what he is talking about though, and has some interesting insight. If you're looking for an easy A or don't like history then avoid this class. Otherwise, go for it, worth it if you are able to put in the time required, which is a lot.

I had Zubok twice, and liked both classes. He knows his stuff, is always willing to help, and is a pretty gentle grader. He assigns a LOT of readings, but (as I've found with most other classes), you can get away with skimming and reading just the key sections. His quizzes are based on the readings, though, so those were a bit tricky.

I have to say that Zubok is the man! Had him for Soviet history, soo interesing. He is funny, knowledgable, and well experienced. Some people have graded him unfairly, do not listen to them. His quizzes and papers can be hard if you are braindead. I smoked the class with an overall A. He knows what he is talking about. Would recommend.

Wow what a waste of my time and money. Zubok is by far the worst history professor I have had at temple, and I have had some of the worst. His lectures are totally disorganized, his quizzes make NO sense. He will ruin your GPA. I have a 3.79 in history and wasn't able to pull higher than B- in this class. What a waste.

Zubok will mess around with your GPA. Being an A- history student I put a lot of effort in this class and still recieved a very low grade. The grade you get on your first quiz or your last paper is the grade you get for the class. what he tells you are going to be on the quiz inevatebly aren't and the quiz ?'s are random and usually usless factoids

Dr.Zubok is the best professor I've encountered at Temple. I took Russian history with him, which I was not at all interested in before the class. He made me LOVE russian history. He's intelligent, well spoken, friendly, and so funny! Definitely take a class with him if you have the opportunity.

this man really knows what he is talking about and knows just about every fact, vey knowledgle and a good teacher. Have a lecture at 810 can put ayone to sleep sometimes though but he is very good teacher and is willing to always help you. I owuld highly recommend him
