This professor forced me to actually learn maths All my life I relied on simple memorization to pass He will teach you to understand and see how it all works but it is ultimately up to u to put in the work Without a doubt the most challenging course Ive ever had but what I got out of it was the most valuable thing Family emergency forced me to drop

Mr. Sheffield is a horrible TEACHER!! And I mean just that! HE knows what he's talking about, but it seems as though he expects all the students to be as smart at math as he is. He never involves class members in discussions, the tests are SUPER hard, and he is extremely stiff in his grading. My class started with 40 students, it ended with 7!

I think This professor has good intentions but that did not help me at all in his class. It was very hard to ask him questions with out a comment about being "dumb" for not getting some of the problems. He moves very quickly, through out the chapters. We learned a new section everyday, so If you don't understand rite at first, It's very hard to cat

Do you want to understand mathematics? Ask yourself seriously before signing up for Sheffield's class. His 150 class is... intense. I got a D and lost a scholarship because of it. It was worth it. Despite the GPA hit, because of him I am now good at college algebra. If you want to understand, and don't care about the pain, Sheffield is your man.

Mr. Sheffield is not my idea of a great teacher. My class started out with 40 kids, and the last week of class we were down to 12. If you have had an into to this already you'll be okay, otherwie find a new teacher. You can not miss class, ESPECIALLY tests - automatic fail, pretty much. Homework isn't checked, which caused some students to slack

When asked how this teacher was I reply, "I enrolled in a College Algebra class, and by day two he was giving Calculus homework". I'm sorry but you DON'T DO THAT. This man will explain, say, "concept D" before ever letting you know that there is an "A,B,C" before it. A terrible teacher, and the only one at MCC who I believe should be fired.

waste of money and time. i attended every class and did all th homework and still failed. ive never failed a math class before in my life until i took his. we started with at least 40 students and by the end were down to about 7, most of whom ended up failing anyways. homework is extremely hard and tests are even worse. stay away is my suggestion.

Great teacher, will help if you need it. Extreamly hard exams!! Textbooks readings are assigned every once in a long time. He does an example of the homework the day before, if the homework takes a few days to finish, using different numbers. the method is the same.

Professor was always willing to help and would give up lunch to help students with assignments or understanding concepts. I started this class late by about a week and he had no problem helping me catch up. Do the homework and the practice tests along with reviewing problems in the book and you will pass.

If you are lucky enough to read about this guy on here be warned.. Wish I would have read about Sheffield on here because his class is a joke; Unless you like an unfair grading system, arrogance, or wasting a semester failing his class 2 out of the original 29 will pass the class that I am in :(

i dont know who wrote the good things about this professor but they are VERY wrong... he teaches the easiest things in class (that u should already know, ie slope) and then give homework that is past the smartest person in classes level and refuse to do examples from it because thats for (tuturing table)and has no problem giving 5%'s on this hw

I still have nightmares. It has been 7 years. I am now have my B.S. in Aeronautical Science and work as a Boeing 737 first officer. He failed 30 of 34 students in his College Algebra class. Although his mind understands math he does not know how to convey it well to his students. Ask Alan about the student petitions on Mesa campus of 2000.

His class was one of the most miserable experiences of my life! Doesn't care about his students and just wants you to know how smart he his. He is cocky and he is pretty smart, but he should not be a teacher, that is for sure! I hated his class.
