This class was very easy, but excruciatingly boring. When I heard Lost Cities and Buried Tribes, I thought it would be fascinating. Instead, he talked so much about China I thought that was what the class was about. The assignments were simple, but I honestly dreaded going to class. I'm glad I took it as a hybrid and we only met for 1 hour weekly.

He used the schedule as a guideline, not as written law and he did his best to accommodate the students as much as possible.

Easy class, no tests or quizzes just some online assignments to do. No textbook is needed and all you really have to do is show up (even then he doesn't take attendance). I usually did homework for other classes. Lots of videos!

Rick's classes are really laid back. The class does require some attention to what he is saying. He doesn't give much direction because he believes students are old enough to know what is expected of them and assignments clearly state minimum requirements at the top. Easy A if you really do the readings, assignments, participate in discussions etc.

I really enjoy Rick's classes. I think if you find them boring it is most likely due to lake of participation. This was my second class with him & this semester 90% of the people in my class did not participate. The class is based around class discussion. I really enjoyed the subject matter and felt I learned a lot from him.

Recommended for the autonomous individual. Fell asleep in class a few times (it was my first class of the day). He leaves almost everything up to you. The class is what you make it. No tests, I doubt attendance was ever taken, very few assignments. Be sincere in your reflections. Think deep about life and how the past relates to today. He's very funny and smart but my classmates and I had a hard time finding direction in the class.

He rambled a lot about things not related the class - he's obsessed with China. He doesn't give enough direction, which made the class difficult. When asked for direction, he was less than helpful. He gave no feedback so I couldn't guage how I was doing. I learned NOTHING. F-

Great teacher, but wish the class would have been more challenging. Unlike others,i think the class was intersting and i would argue that he stayed on topic. The class is set up to encourage discussion, and i appreciated the enriching experience. Expect to participate, and help make the class as fun and worthwhile as i found it to be.

I expected to actually learn something from this class, but instead he goes on rants about how in love he is with China. He tends to ramble and never really state the facts. I was very disappointed with this class, as I thought I would be learning more about Anthropology not China 101.

The class was really is, and watching movies was fun. But once he started talking I hated that class. All he ever talked about was global warming, and tigers are going extinct, and the water level is rising, and we're all going to die some horrible death. His views were always one-sided and he never said anything to back up his claims. Arrogant!

This guy is a free flowing/winging it kind of guy, no text books, no attendance, no homework or quizes, No anything, just sit in class and listen to him, you occasionally get one or 2 hw assignments but that's it, the class was very entertaining, a very fun class, EVERYBODY GOT AN A!!!

Never takes attendance and doesn't care as long as you turn in all reflections by the end of the semester you will get an A, guaranteed. Attendance for this class is not required. No textbooks required either. haha love it!!!

Took his class for honors and was not what I expected. Had unclear structure, light workload, lenient on assignments, but still very knowledgeable. Still an easy A if you do the bare minimum, but he will supplement your knowledge if you are interested and make an effort to go above and beyond. He is a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything.

This was the most fascinating class I have ever had. He has a free flowing type of class...just when you think why are we talking about this, it all comes around and fits together. If you attend and do what you are suppose to, you will pass. I wish I could take this class every semester!

Great teacher, makes anthropology very interesting. Expects very little in the way of real work, but provides plenty of thought provoking ideas and concepts to mull. I highly recommend.

I took him for Buried Cities. There was no clear structure, and there was independent research, which frustrated some. But the workload was extremely light, and we focused on learning general principles about the past that really relate to today, not memorizing small details. I think he is a great teacher.

I took his buried cities and lost tribes class. The class was a joke. If you have any interest in anthropology get a different teacher. Nothing is learned in this class.
