I took his online philosophy class and I honestly wasn't expecting much. I really enjoyed this class and was excited to learn. I am not a philosophy major - took this class for a humanities credit and was not disappointed. Hayward was always super helpful and gave really good feedback. Hard to find with an online course

Professor Hayward is well-versed, thoughtful, and his breadth of knowledge covers a wide range of topics! I've heard my classmates complain about "off-topic" discussion, but I 100% disagree - every digression was relevant and enriched my understanding of the subject material.

Warning, this is a philosophy class, you will have to work and think to earn your grade. These comments are most likely from people who do not like to work hard for an A. It is completely possible if you read the material and think.

Really terrible online class, he is really mean professor, he has a lot of reading work and assignments. He knows the student who will graduate, but just fail class, student need satay one more semester for ONLY one class. If your have any thing wrong with this class, he doesn't talk with you first, just tell chairman and fail your class..

I've been at SEMO for 3 years now and this was easily the worst class/ professor I've had so far. He is a very intelligent man but his classes do not follow any kind of structure. He lectures the whole time with out any notes/ power points. Very hard to follow. Also doesn't allow computers for note taking.

Probably the hardest prof I've had. Confusing and rambles on and on about things that don't really have anything to do with the topic of the day. Will constantly be flipping back and forth in the book, and hardly ever writes notes on the board. DOES NOT ALLOW ANY TECHNOLOGY. Not the hardest grader, but asks for you to explain every little detail.

I took this class online and I hated it. It is a lot of reading and he is very strict when it comes to grading. I just needed this class for a general study, it did not pertain to my major and taking this class was the biggest mistake I have made. If you're not a philosophy major, don't take this course with this teacher.

Dr. Hayward is a brilliant, thoughtful man and his classes are among the best SEMO has to offer. His critics on this page are laughable turds. Go to class, pay attention, read and think. If you can do those things, you'll pass the class. You might even learn something interesting or beautiful about the nature of things.

Worst class I have ever taken in my life. The work load is unrealistic if you have a full school load and work. Expect to read a ton and do a lot of homework. Also, you won't get any feedback on your homework (except on forums) besides a generic answer sheet. Navigating his website is terrible. Good luck finding anything you need.

I took this class online. It requires a great deal of reading and thinking; not all of the material is easy to understand. Students must answer questions based on the reading that also require thinking. The class wasn't too hard because a few lower grades are dropped. The work load was significant, but I learned a lot in this class.

I have been attending college for two years, this was the worst class I have EVER taken in my whole entire life. All of the comments about how he makes no sense is 100% true. Unless you completely understand philosophy, you will not understand this class. IT IS SIGNING UP FOR AN F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't say I took this class, but I think I should just mention that his condescending attitude made me drop the class on the second day. Usually teachers appreciate class participation, but if you are a beginner to philosphy--keep quiet. It seems he gets joy out of making people feel inferior to him. He was unkind and needs to get his lisp fixed

He talks himself in circles always The material would be easy to understand if it was taught in a different way He lectures all hr and goes over His tests are tough but he tends to grade easy. The class isnt worth many pts so every pt matters. Its pointless to go to class because he never makes sense and makes you more confuse than you already were

Please do not take this class unless you are somebody that understands philosophy to the fullest. He rambles and nothing ever makes sence and his grading is hard and since the class is only worth like 160 pts totall its tough. He seems high on himself as well. Very intelligent which is his downfall in this class cause it bites ya if you dont get it

I made an A. I read the lecture notes. You must read the notes to fully be able to write. If you like philosophy, then I recommend this web class. This is not easy material and something you can skim through. You must read and explain in the assignments. Dropped 3 lowest grades and had extra credit opportunities. Great course, learned a lot.

Comment:
As a graduating Philosophy major, Dr. Hayward was one of my favorite professors. I think that many of these criticisms come from a complete lack of understanding of the subject matter. It is not "just your opinion," and those who turn in works comprised of such get upset with Big Al when they don't get an "A." Rather unfortunate to say the least.
