Comment:

He genuinely cares about all of his students. But, I regretted taking this class because there are no assignments and just exams and one final paper. If you're a religious studies major or something along the lines, this is the class for you. If not, it might not be worth it. There is a 25 point extra credit though to bump up poor exam grades.

Comment:

Notes never ready, he would types 5 words per line and not explain and then expect you to copy them down. The class is only based on 3 tests and 1 paper. Tests are fill in the blank and short answer ONLY. Although, the study huide answers are on quizlet, memorize those are you are set. He grades if he likes your resonse or not for short answer.

Comment:

I took AFAS 335, to have a course that I didn't really have to stress about. Turns out it's the course that has stressed me out the most. There are only 4 assignments, 3 test and 1 paper. There is really no way to bring your grade up. He is a tough grader and specific won't give partial credit.

Comment:

I took RELI 304 online over the summer and it was an easy A. There is 3 books you must read, with the longest being about 400 pages, and each book comes with an essay. Thats it... no tests or quizzes or homework. Nava was always responsive to email and offered to read my papers and tell me where to improve.

Comment:

Took his online summer class, only 4 papers based on sections of books. And one of the books is written by him. You just have to summarize well with page numbers, and prove you just read the book. Super cool guy, gave nice feedback, really into music so he's super chill. Wouldn't mind taking an in-person class with him.

Comment:

Class had no homework, 3 midterms, and a final paper. He required 3 books (one of which he wrote) which were necessary for the final paper. He provided a study guide for each midterm which fit very closely with the exams given. His lectures were very interesting and he's clearly got a lot of passion for the subject. Also he is very into hip-hop

Nava is a great professor! Really cares about his students as well as the information he is teaching so he constantly inspires interest. HIs notes are very straight forward and his study guides are exactly like the exams so it's not a tough class. Definitely recommend!

Nava is awesome! DON'T let the fact that your grade depends on 3 tests spook you even with test anxieties! Take notes, do the study guides and you will pass with a great grade! He will even go over your exams and boost your score if you feel the TA graded it to low. Super interesting lectures! One of my fav professors at the U of A. Great class!

If you want to take a religion class you should for sure try to get Nava as your professor. One of my favorite instructors ever at U of A.

I LOVED his class! Make sure you're paying attention and that you attend class. Beware, he loves fill in the blank on his tests with short answer. Your grade is based on only 3 tests, but easy if test taking is a strength of yours. Setting up a class shared googledoc to study helped a lot! I would totally recommend this class.

Comment:

If you are very interested in the topic of religion/God, and want detailed knowledge of it, then definitely take this class - 3 exams and a paper, with nice lectures. If you don't care what "salam alaikum" is in Islamic tradition or what "Tzaddik" means in Judaism, this class is not for you. The exams are based on memorization of ideas and terms.

Alexander Nava is one of the best teachers at The University of Arizona. He cares deeply about his subject matter and all of his students. I highly recommend taking one of his courses!

Comment:

Prof. Nava is a very nice guy. For RELI304, he gives a study guide to review before the tests; which, mostly reflect the guide. He will even regrade your tests to make sure its fair. The material is difficult because you have to memorize the everything in the class and spelling cause the test is all short answer/fill in the blank with no word bank

Interesting and easy class, the only problem is that since he does not assign homework or anything outside of tests, it is hard to achieve an A without doing the extra credit. I got some of the highest test scores, an 86, 90, and 91, and got a B in the class. Also, the tests are completely fill in the blank and short answer with different graders

The subject matter was interesting and attendance is not mandatory. The only things you get graded on are 3 exams. He takes points off these exams like crazy, making it not as easy as it seems.

Comment:

Mr. Nava's class was a really interesting and eye opening class. He makes it enjoyable to learn and not so stressful. Loved that I learned a lot in a laid back setting as well. It was nice not to worry about so much homework. There are only 3 exams which he sends a study guide as well if you study that, those are usually the exam questions.

Professor Nava was a great professor and very attractive! I took this class because my friend suggested it to me and said it was going to be easy. There are only 3 test, with no homework or quizzes. He is very interesting, intelligent, as well as easy on the eyes. I really liked that he remembered me and made an effort to learn his students names.
