I created an account here just to say that these negative reviews here are insane. Scult "inarticulate"? Jumpin' Jesus, he's not only the most articulate professor I've ever had, he may well be the most articulate person I've ever met. String together any conceivable opinion and you'll find someone has slung it up somewhere online.

Comment:

Loves teaching and is VERY knowledgable. He may seem unclear at times, but that is because the philosophical issues he is tackle and present to the class are extremely dense and very hard to comprehend. Easily one of the best professors if you want to broaden your understanding of Heidegger, Existentialism, Postmodernism, or life in general.

I hated this professor. I am a 4.0 student and he gave me a C in the class because I presented a different view point. He only cares about himself and his own opinions, is a terrible listener, only wants to talk about himself and being jewish. Most unarticulate professor ever- this class is a total waste of time and money.

Dr Scult is very good at explaining very difficult concepts and engaging students in discussion. He really makes you work for you grade and does not beat around the bush when you are incorrect but he is also very encouraging and gives great constructive criticism.

Comment:

He is an academic snob and favors Jewish students over their Gentile counterparts. He is funny and engaging. His class can get tedious and the reading is overwhelming. This is an extremely difficult intro class. Be advised, he scares students on the first day of class to weed them out.

The first few weeks were terrible- he made me doubt what I thought about the readings. Scult is brutally honest, but a fantastic teacher. He provides criticism on papers, but definitely very constructive. He cares so much about his students, and about the subject. He also has a great sense of humor. Highly recommended.

Dr. Scult is one of the most eccentric men you will ever meet, but he is by far one of the coolest. He is always willing to help explain the readings to you, and he can find value in any kind of opinion because of his pragmatism. He will terrify you at first, buthe grows on you.

Excellent professor; the best teacher I have ever had. Professor Scult cares about his students and is in love with what he teaches. His particular style of teaching is both unique as well as refreshing. I learned more from him than anyone else.

Tries to scare you out of the class on the first day, incredibly frustrating the first month, but one day you just go "hey, I get this" and you realize he's pretty good at what he does.
