Comment:
Her lecture slides are outdated and she doesn't podcast, so unless you record her lectures (and she whips through the material, mind you) it's very easy to get lost. Her TA's seem to be under the mistaken impression that undergraduates can write lab reports like grad students; they will take points away even if you stick to the rubric.

I enjoyed her class. She rarely updates her notes and doesn't podcast often, but lectures are pretty straightforward and well-organized into the background and the why and how analyses are conducted. The book is a HUGE help though, and I'd recommend getting it just to have on hand if you're working in the industry.

Dr. Mitchell is a bad professor. She posts lecture notes but they are often wrong. She doesn't post lecture slides and doesn't let you record the lectures. She is so proud that this is the cornerstone food chemistry course to pound of being pompous. Labs are also difficult with difficult lab grading. Expect to work.

Class was very interesting, really applies general chemistry knowledge to analytical applications. Slides are not uploaded, so record her lectures & fill in your notes! Exams were straightforward, but you get 60+ questions in 50 minutes, so you really need to know what you're doing. Textbook & HW assignments helps studying for midterms/final.

Easy A if you study before midterms. 4 midterms (one dropped), 4 online quizzes, and a final. Midterm material straight from ppts.

Worst class I have taken at Davis. The class seems really cool by the synopsis in the catalog, but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Boring lectures. Errors in every single lecture. Fails to answer questions. Only reason why people do well in this class is extra credit quiz on the first day. Exams are timed per question and require memorization of facts.

She was an extremely boring lecturer and it was hard to stay awake during class. There was a lot of information presented, but you can easily pass the class just by studying the lecture slides. It seemed like a lot of the information in this class isn't particularly useful.

Barely pass the class without attending lecture since it was very early in the morning. Study the lectures on smartsite and pass with a C which is very close to not passing. It has a lot of information to remember for the test and I dislike the midterms/finals how you only have about 20-30 seconds to answer the questions. There's no time to think!

I wish I liked this class more. Prof. Mitchell seems nice, but is so unapproachable and her tests are stupidly worded and hard. She had so many typos in lectures and on tests, and blatantly copied word for word info from Wikipedia onto her slides. Refuses to hand back old midterms and was impossible to schedule an appointment with.

Class is average difficulty.I think the class is harder than it once was before. The information is very dense and definitely not super easy for non-science majors especially since it gets very science based and actually uses some concepts from o chem about stereoisomers as well as chirality.

Dr. Mitchell knows her stuff when it comes to chromatography and analyzing foods so she really does teach us about the physical and chemical methods for analyzing foods, which is highly relavent towards the food industry. The exams she takes quite a bit from the study questions in the book. So i suggest using that to know what her exams are like

Super professor! Enthusiastic about the subject and really easy. Lectures are jam-packed with information so you're better off just listening rather than trying to write everything up. Class is based entirely on powerpoint slides which are uploaded online. 4 midterms, no final. Midterms are easy too! Oh yeah, extra credit!

A very nice professor. Very helpful and understanding. She is clear of what she wants you to study. 10 Extra credit is given out on the first day of class so you basically get step of a grade booster. Highly recommended.

Dr. Mitchell is perfect! I've taken many FST courses & this is my fave. Her motherly instinct was one of the reasons I loved this class so much, I wish more professors were like that. She makes lecture interesting by relating it to her experiences. Exams are fair, study the slides & try understanding the big picture, not every single detail.

She seems to really like what she does and it shows in her teaching. Really easy class if you're taking her for FST 10. She actually wants you to pass her class with an A. Great teacher overall.

Attractive, but you came for the class, and the class isn't half bad, either. Puts lots of personal experience into her lectures. However, she cannot spell. (Look at the presentations and see for yourself.) Textbook is interesting, but if you don't plan on reading it outside of what you need for tests, then you are wasting your money.

Let me start off by saying, Dr. Mitchell is HOT. :) And I'm a straight chick. But don't let that fool you, she's also an excellent lecturer, and makes the class go by so fast. I attended all her lectures, because they were always interesting. You do have to study for the class, but trust me, it's not that difficult, and it's well worth it.
