Great professor, she's very knowledgeable and a notably good lecturer. She grades generously, there's a fair bit of work (three four page papers, four 1-2 paragraph assignments, midterm/final are easy if you study) and she takes attendance. The textbook is a good read.

The class is extremely boring, and a lot harder then I expected. She is very detail oriented and make sure that you remeber all the small details of each song for her listening quizzes. There is a lot more work then one will expect for an intro class, with a lot of writing for a class that does not give WE credits. She also is a strict grader.

Class was boring and harder than I expected. Her listening quizzes were pretty difficult to study for and her midterm and final were pretty difficult if you did not study carefully. She's a very sweet lady though, but if you just need an easy GE for credits then stay away because I probably spent more time on her class than my major classes.

She's a nice lady and she certain knows what she's talking about, but beware this class is actually pretty detailed for an introductory course. I have a pretty strong music background but a lot of her questions required blunt memorization of useless facts that do not necessarily contribute to your overall understanding of the subject matter.

Prof Levy is amazing! Her knowledge of the subject is vast and the way she coveys it to students is even better. She always has a smile on her face and is ready to help any student. If you are interested in music, definitely take her class.

Professor Levy knows the material, is extremely helpful, and made me excited to come to class. Her tests do require studying, but if you read the lecture slides you'll be fine. I learned a lot in her class, and I wish she taught the rest of the 24 series.

One of the best professors I had. Lecture and expectations are crystal clear. Study guides are very helpful and is really what was on the midterm and final. No super hard analytical questions. Easy listening quizzes. Just read and pay attention in class. Relatively less HW. Very helpful in office hours. Wants all students to pass the class.

Beth Levy is a great professor. She posts so many extra materials online & responds very quickly to questions & concerns. Her study guides are clear & she tells you exactly what to expect on tests. She's very approachable & doesn't make you feel stupid when you don't understand. I wish that she taught 24B so that I could have her next quarter.

Professor Levy's class was very challenging but she seems pretty nice. It's definitely not an easy A. There are 4 quizzes, 2 essays, a midterm, and a final. If you have prior music experience and are very interested in classical music then take this class. If not, then please avoid this class, it's honestly not worth your time.

I am an engineering major, I can deal with a tough class which requires hard work and studying, but this course was ridiculous. I finished with a B+ in a GE that was advertised as an introductory course. The material itself is not particularly difficult but there is a lot and professor Levy was extremely unclear. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

She was an amazing professor! I don't understand what everyone is saying. Yes attendance is mandatory but she literally tells you what is going to be on the test by giving you a study guide. Plus she only had you take 2 of the 3 exams (no final!) if you were happy with your grade. Completely fair with grading. A must take.

The class was good and enjoyable. Lectures were very helpful, but in the end, I used my book to study for the final. We had to do listening logs and two essays which weren't that bad, depending on your TA. Exams were fair, half of them consisted of short answer questions which she gives you beforehand, so make sure to prep for those.

The comment below here is ridiculous! Prof. Levy is an extremely bright person! She knows her stuff very well and is very passionate about what she is teaching us. I do agree it's bad to have a 9am music literature class, but overall it's worth attending it. She's extremely helpful during office hours! Very nice professor indeed!

This Prof. should not be teaching this class. she has absolutely no knowledge of what music really is. if you are a true musician and can actually play music to a high standard dont even bother taking such a pointless class. you will be sick and tired and you will be thinking, "I obviously know more than her any day any time."

Very easy class. She is really nice and explains things better in OH. Her midterms and finals are extremely easy. I had no prior music knowledge and got a flat A in the class. This is a perfect easy A, G.E. class. You do have to read the textbook for the tests though.

Pretty chill class. Definitely not an easy A. The midterm and final were both difficult especially if you have no prior knowledge of music. Discussion is a waste of time but you have to go. If you take it seriously you can actually learn stuff. study hard for the tests.

She's a pretty bizarre woman. But she's very knowledgable when it comes to music. I basically only took this class so that I could take the History of Rock, but ended up enjoying it (Then again, I love music). If you're not interested in classical music, then avoid.

It took a quarter for me to get used to her, but I came out of MUS 24C wishing to learn more. She is fair, kind, and VERY helpful in office hours. But you have to do your work. Memorize your music and ALL the definitions she gives. I REALLY enjoyed MUS 24 and I have no regret taking her class!

I loved this class. Although lectures were boring at times, Prof. Levy did a good job presenting the information. I liked how many assignments make the grade, not just tests. Even though there was a lot of work, I thought it was an easy A. The book was confusing if you had no knowledge of music.

Prof. Levy is a very nice woman. She treats her students fairly and does not grade very hard. However, this class can be very tough for those with no music experience. Be prepared to listen to lots of music and read a bunch too.
