Cam is a good prof, but he could be a great prof. HE DOES NOT MAKE HIM SELF AVAILABLE TO HIS STUDENTS. If you email him he may not answer, or just tell you to ask another student. He likes to refer to the text A LOT, but you can do well without it. He is very prideful and full of himself. He does know a lot though, class if very fun and engaging.

Cam isn't that great. He is a great guy, a poor prof. His teaching style is very unconventional and strange, which can be hard to adapt to. He expects you to read the entire textbook and memorize every single sentence in the book, and then doesn't give you an outline for the midterm. Nice guy, bad prof.

Cam is a nut, and I mean that in the best possible sense. His unconventional teaching style is refreshing and I appreciated the amount of effort he puts into teaching. PARTICIPATE! It's why we are here (and you might even enjoy it). You rule Cam and I'd vote for you for PM.

Cam gives great lectures. He loves his job and it shows. He does play favorites to students who do the work. I do not see harm in that... Keep up the great work Cam!

Comment:

Pros: Cam's lectures are engaging and interactive. He makes politics relevant and meaningful. He has very clear expectations: read the textbook, study smart, go to office hours and do extra credit and you can do very well. Cons: Cam is not gentle and speaks his mind which can come across as very harsh. Some lectures were hard to follow.

Simply put, Cam loves his job and will help you love what he teaches if you participate and give it a chance. Makes you work for the grade through inspiring, funny, fascinating lectures. READ THE MATERIAL and talk to him if you're uncertain! Simple rules that few follow then suffer as a result. I highly recommend him and his style of teaching.

I loved this class. Cam keeps things interesting and genuinely wants you to succeed. That being said, you need to actually do the work. The textbook readings can get overwhelming, so forming a study group and splitting the chapters up is a really good idea. Cam is very approachable and flexible in his office hours as well.

Overall excellent. The weekly mini-essays were a bit much, but weren't outrageously difficult. Ask him what he is looking for in the papers and write accordingly - his expectations are very clear. Ask questions, read the text(!), remember the terms, listen, get a style sheet on MLA format and you will be fine. Very fair marker.

I failed the midterm so bad. But was able to get a C. Had to work very hard after the midterm. He's very tough. I do have to agree with others that he is arrogant.

The lectures are good, but the teacher is a prick. Don't count on him for lending a hand or being helpful. He's very intimidating and has mastered the art of belittling his students.

Interesting lectures but not a very helpful or compassionate teacher. Has high expectations and is very condescending. He loves to name drop all the important people he knows. Wears his ego on the crown of his head. Overall, he needs to wake up to the needs of the students whom he is trying to serve.

Cam is an awesome teacher, really passionate, engaging and makes his lectures well organized and personal. He has strong viewpoints, and encourages creative and action-based thought. I learned a lot with this course, and would recommend him. The textbook is easy to read, but he assigns up to 3 chapters a week. The weekly essays get annoying.

cam is a super great prof. i cam einto the class expecting it to be very boring and i was amazed how interesting he makes it. he uses lots of examples to dumb it down so you get the basic concept then elaborates on it to give you a full understanding. he does assign weekly essays which he choose two randoms which are worth about 20% of your mark.

I simply can't believe that more people have not rated Mr. Sylvester as 'hot.' He has a chisled face (it really was, in a fight with a stonemason in the 70's), and his body is rockin'... in a rockin' chair, on his porch back home. I love this guy!

Cam is a great teacher. He's very passionate about what he teaches. I love his use of slideshows. He has very liberal ideas so good for any neo-marxists or anyone pissed off with the capitalist system. Love his slideshows!! He really engages the class in discussion so don't be shy!
