Carol Ann is the perfect example of why CofC is an incredible place to spend 4 very transformative years of your life. Nurturing, but also requires you to be independent. She demands your best and teaches you to value/cultivate your unique traits and passions. She is the reason why I chose CofC and I didn't even know her then. - MA

She is amazing. Changed my whole life plan. I'm now in graduate school in poetry because of her. I don't know where I would be without CAD.

Carol Ann will come right out and say why she doesn't make it easy:there's never any fulfillment in the "real world" of creative writing, and she wants to discourage us from the inevitable disappointments.Still,Carol Ann will change your life-if you let her.She will pry open your prejudices with refreshing honesty, frankness, and genuine affection.

Amazing teacher. Really cares about her students and is very passionate about her subject. I wish all my teachers cared about their classes as much as she does! If you don't like to be challenged, don't take this class.

Great teacher, person, etc. She has changed my entire plan for life and turned me upside down on my head but I've loved every minute of it. If you have the opportunity to take her, honestly you're dumb not to.

Of course this woman is moody, and "catty," because any respectable artist is emotive and passionate. I feel this should be welcomed rather than shunned. She changed the way that I view (and hear) speech, words, language, and ultimately, songwriting. Students, do yourself a favor and at least take Poetry I from this instructor!!

Very moody, but you will absolutely gain from having her as a mentor. No doubt she is the best poet for miles around. She will push you and push you, and you will go from hating the class to loving the class. Just be warned. But she is awesome.

an interesting class, but be prepared to do all the reading and lots of semi-boring discussions about "literary merit" can be somewhat overwhelming at times, but as long as you turn in your assignments on time and do what is requested you'll get an A

I found her somewhat pushy and hard to work with. I have no problem with her having her own favored style of poetry, but I wish she was more open to exploring alternatives. She's a better writer than a teacher.

Carol Ann is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. Her Poetry 1 course convinved me to change my major and choose her as my advisor. I have taken every course she's taught at the College. She does assign alot of work and she is a very tough grader but you can be sure that when you do make good marks that you have done well. I highly reccomen

Carol Ann is amazing. Some may say she's catty and mean- but the degree to which she is open and honest with her students is a testament to her respect for them and their abilities. I had had many writing classes before CofC but after 4 classes with her i'm still amazed with how much i've learned. Definitely one of the best CofC has to offer

This lady loves poetry, but only her kind. If you are an experienced poet/writer, you shouldn't have problems, but the class is very hard for someone exploring writing for the first time-she wasn't fair or helpful to those students. Harsh grader/critic. Sometimes just catty & mean-often insecure. But if you really want this class, it's doable.

Carol Ann is absolutely wonderful! she definately will push you to your limits with your work, but only because she expects great things that do come when you give it your all! uses all of her class time, and assigns lots of work, but the assignments are unique and produce great results! A+

I carried from this class a mixed appreciation for contemporary poetry, about what it deserves. Be aware that this instructor's preferred theories are DIVINE. If asked to comment, feign great deference and a look of starry-eyed awe. All questions are leading, but only one of you steers. She learned our names in ten minutes, which was impressive.

Carol is great a great person and teacher, although I've begun to part ways with her when it comes to poetic theory as I find myself focusing more on formal structure in my own writing.

Dr. Davis was probably among the top two teachers I have ever had, including high school. Make sure you listen to her, and take her advice knowing that she knows more than anyone that you ARE a writer and that your style is unique. She will help you develop that style as long as you work with her.

Can be a little boring at times and keeps you in class the entire time (2 hours and 45 mins). She has some weird activities and assignments that are fun but without purpose. Grades hard but tells you that ahead of time. Lots of work to do for each class. Has a bit of a NY attitude to comments.

Without doubt the best teacher at CofC;a mentor for keeps.Get into any of her classes that are open.It is hard, but life changing and thought altering in the best of ways.Missing this opportunity would have been worth the extra money for an extra semester
