I know when you are about to take this class, you think it will be boring. But nothing is boring when it comes to Dr. Hoffman. He is hilarious and willing to help the students in any way. One of the sweetest professors! I really enjoyed this class. My advice is listen in class and take good notes. Study thoroughly for tests and youll be fine!

A genuinely nice person who really cares about the students. Does his best for a positive experience and even pays out of pocket for pizza often for class. Set up for success but lecture heavy, he drops a quiz and assignment grade, gives tons of easy extra credit and is hilarious, even when talking politics. Not a hard class if you try.

Dr. Hoffman is an easy grader which makes his class more bareable. The test basically come straight from his quizes + an essay question. He gives some extra credit but its hard to find what he wants for extra credit. He curves a lot, and always responds to emails in good timing. His lectures are boring, but it is Western Civ sooo

Even for a history major, I struggled immensely to enjoy his class. I'm a straight-A student, so I'm not just saying this because I'm lazy. It was so hard for me to find the subject material interesting solely because of the way his lectures are structured and delivered. I don't like his political tangents because they don't matter to the class

Dr. Hoffman really knows what he is teaching and is very passionate about it. The only issue I had with him is his MANY rabbit trails that don't seem to relate to the topic whatsoever. Write what is on the powerpoints and anything he repeats and you'll do fine!

Excellent Teacher. Extremity interesting in lectures, clear on due dates, and specs of assignments, and information you must know on test. Most information comes directly from lecture & power point. He lists a text book, but I never read it because all the info is in the lecture. He also allows you to drop your lowest quiz4 score and paper3 score

He is really funny and entertaining. he is very hyper but he cares about his students and what his subject matter (which is more than apparent). He is the only teacher that has made me interested in Mesopotamia. His class is not hard, no surprises on tests, quizzes, or writings. He is SUPER understanding and willing to work with you any way he can.

I had Dr. Hoffman for my Foundations of Western Culture class over the summer, and it was actually pretty enjoyable! He is very thorough with the knowledge that he gives us. He gets off track sometimes with stories, but most of the time, they're relatable. There are heavy reading assignments and essays are worth 50% of your grade so it's not awful.

Show up to class, take good notes, and you won't fail. Dr. Hoffman tries to be funny to make the class interesting like is joking about his "Catholic Girlfriend." Anyways, when he says remember the key dates, remember them. The test comes straight from the notes, there aren't any surprises. Dr. Hoffman is a nice guy. But his lectures are boring.

Notes are important. Just write or type from the slide. Make flashcards before exams and quizzes, and you will do really well in class. Put aside some time before a quiz or exam, and it is really not that difficult of a class.

Don't miss class! He is every enthusiastic while lecturing. He always talks about his Catholic girlfriend. He gives to much information while lecturing, and you need to study every note you take. Study the quizzes because they will be on the test, and make sure you know the Key Dates. His class is hard.

He lectures from a powerpoint, which I find to be extremely boring. You have to write down a lot because his powerpoints are not on moodle, and he goes over so much material and so fast. That is the hardest part of this class. As long as you take good notes, and study the notes, you will get an A. You have to write 1 biography and take 3 tests.

Hoffman is an average professor. His class wasn't interesting, he has a hard time making the material interesting, and he rants a lot about politics at the most random times. That is probably the biggest issue. Once he starts to rant it's hard to not tune out. He's a nice guy, just not interesting.

I enjoy the material, and he is really nice. Some classes are boring, but I think the class is super easy. He gives about 4 or 5 reading assignments, and questions come with them. They are long, but he is an fairly easy grader. The exams are long, but I always did well on them. You don't need a book, and you can use a laptop or notebook.

Professor Hoffman is truly excited about the material he is teaching and gets his students excited, as well! The material that he teaches in class is exactly what ends up on the quizzes and tests. His lectures will intrigue you with various stories if you are willing to be interested. I would definitely take him again! He is a sweet guy!

GO TO CLASS. I missed 8 classes, it killed my grade. Take EXCELLENT notes on what he actually saysgives detail to, not only what he put's up on the PowerPoints. The PowerPoints are there more for reference and quick points, it's not good study material it itself. Don't be me trying get by with okay notes and expect to pass, because you won't.

He will tell you during the 1st class that you don't need a textbook. Just take notes. He is funny and his lectures are interesting. Remember the key dates he goes over because you will need to recall them all semester. I'll probably take another class with him, not because it's required, but because he makes history interesting to me. Great guy.

Dr. Hoffman has been one of the best professors I've had the opportunity to take classes from - he's passionate about what he teaches, knows it like the back of his hand, cares about his students, and is extremely good at his teaching method. I would take all my history classes with him if I could!

Class was supposed to be about Tudor and Stuart England, never reached the Stuart's. In fact, the class felt more like the evolution of the Church of England and the cromwell class (spent over a week talking about Cromwell), than the Tudor Stuart class I signed up for. :(
