i loved dr. toise. he takes time to schedule mandatory individual meetings with each student and really teaches you how to improve your own writing. i stretched myself bc the psychological articles were difficult, but i definitely learned a lot! he is hilarious and the lectures are engaging. take him for 120a.

Toise's Advanced Comp is pretty tough, but if you put in the effort, you will really improve your writing. He's an extremely nice guy, and he will take the time to help you as much as you need throughout the course.

Dr. Toise is an amazing professor and he is extremely passionate about his subject matter! He encourages participation in class discussions, but he won't force you to talk if you don't want to (not to say that he won't call on you and coax you a little). I really enjoyed this course and I would love to have another class with this professor.

Awesome professor! Obviously loves the material. He's always running around the classroom as he teaches. Lots of writing and a quiz once a week. I'm an English major and I felt like it was even more beneficial for me. Definitely recommend!

Comment:

Best Professor as Sac State hands down. His shirt will be soaked with sweat by the end of class from standing on tables and running up and down the stairs. He will known your name by the end of the 2nd week of class. Take him if you can! He makes you want to learn and read!

Toise is hysterical and he's crazy which made class entertaining. He is super passionate about what he's teaching, but a lot of the times class was super boring. Homework wasn't bad and tests were pretty easy. He's a good teacher, but you have to be interested in what he's teaching about to make it worthwhile.

This literally was my favorite class that I have ever taken. Toise is an amazing professor, truly passionate about what he teaches! He keeps students interested in interacting in the class, it keeps everyone awake. I feel like I have taken so much from him and this class, and hope to take another of his classes in the future!

lots of reading. easy class for an A in English. As long as you do the readings and show up to class everyday there is no reason why you shouldn't get at least a B. He is passionate and educated on what he teaches. Will miss his lectures!

Professor Toise makes coming to class fun! Sometimes the texts can be long and repetitive, but he has so much energy and is so enthusiastic the class goes by quick. As for quizzes and home work, the quizzes are VERY simple. The posts for homework can be tricky. Make sure you go to class and pay attention :)

Toise is great! You can tell that he really loves teaching and I was never bored in his class. I also learned a lot and the texts he chooses are interesting and helpful without being too expensive. His feedback is very helpful and he wants you to grow as a writer and reader. Definitely take a class of his if you are an English major!

Professor Toise makes you work hard but he is so engaging and so enthusiastic about his subject. He knows his stuff and while some of it is really hard to grasp he's still amazing. Do the readings, and try!! He will totally help you if you ask. He also has wonderful fashion sense! I love him!

Dr. Toise is seriously the best instructor I've ever had. He ties the WHOLE semester together with step-by-step progress through the concepts. Pay attention because he gets really profound in his discussions. They're outstanding! He is seriously fantastic, I wish I had the opportunity to take more of his classes.

Great professor really witty and funny. He is extremely helpful when it comes to helping you develop your writing abilities. Although, he's prompts are often difficult to understand. If you ask questions he is more than willing to help and guide you through it. Lots of reading but overall class is average i got a B- without much effort.

Toise is one of the best professors I've ever had. His class discussions are entertaining, engaging, and incredibly useful. I was engrossed by almost all of the literature in the course, and if you do the reading and put effort into your WebCT posts, you'll do well. It takes work, but it's rewarding. I believe Toise is a great professor, I just wasn't too fond of the subject. Expect pages and pages of reading a night, make sure to READ all the content until you understand it, because it can be pretty difficult at times. David Toise is an extremely witty, brilliant, funny, and engaging teacher who does not let you get by without conversing about the material taught in class. Yes, he can be difficult, but come on! You're an English GRAD STUDENT! You still want easy classes? Go back to the undergrad program.
