Ehhh, he's okay but not the best religion professor out there (far from it actually). Find yourself someone who doesn't make a religion class feel like a train that's coming right at you. He is a good man and is very nice, but his coursework is ruthless and he expects you to become an expert on the smallest of details from the New Testament.

He is very old school and makes you work for it. Though the class was rigorous, I appreciated the challenge to step up and devote more detailed study to my scriptures. Exams were straightforward if you studied religiously for them. I appreciated his emphasis on gaining a stronger testimony of the Savior and his divine mission from the class.

Don't take this class from Dr. Whitchurch. He gave ridiculously long reading assignments and the tests were unnecessarily difficult, usually focusing on minor unimportant details mentioned briefly in class. I was looking forward to learning lots of doctrine in this class, but all I got was some dry New Testament history and unimportant random facts

Professor Whitchurch is really nice and cares about his students. However, he often went on tangents while teaching so we were always really behind on the material. There is a long paper you have to write that is pretty hard. Tests were hard.

This guy is probably the worst religion teacher at BYU. He expects everyone to memorize the New Testament, and care as much as he does about the tiny tiny details in the New Testament. The tests are tricky, and if you haven't memorized the 4 gospels, you probably won't get a great score. I would not recommend this class from this teacher.

I really enjoyed taking christ and the everlasting gospel from Brother Whitchurch. He mentioned something to the effect that his ratings on this site are what they are because most of the people that write reviews do so because they don't like him or the class, so I wanted to balance his reviews out a bit. I wouldn't put him at a 5 but pretty close

Overall, I really liked this class. It was just unnecessarily difficult when it came to exams. The questions are really specific, so even with the study guide it's hard to know what to expect. He spends a lot of time in class telling stories that are great and super interesting, but then does not get to the material you are actually tested on.

He gives lots of readings and expects students to remember little details for the tests which make up a majority of the grade. There is also a big research essay which is graded harshly. His lectures are good though he fails to gets to all the content planned and then promises to curve the test to account for the things he failed to teach.

Dr Whitchurch is a great teacher. You will learn a lot in class, but he is very specific about what you need to know for the tests, so there is never any surprises.

In this class you write a pericope paper, but several other classes do it as well. Tests can be a little challenging and some questions are obscure facts, but if you attend every class and do all the assigned readings, it's not too difficult. Grading can be a bit sensitive because most of the credit comes from the Paper and attendance/participation

This class was not only difficult, it was completely useless. I tried keeping up with readings but there are so many of them that the chances of you remembering the correct material for the test questions is extremely low. He also doesn't give out too many assignments making the essay (which is harshly graded) and the exams your final grade.

Literally the most boring professor I've ever had. The best thing about his class was the jokes that were so painfully awkward, they were funny. Other than that, it was just plain boring, and a little difficult compared to other religion classes.

Do not take Rel250 from him. His class was the hardest one i've taken so far and it shouldn't have been. I was extremely disappointed in how he made and graded his tests. He barely curved the final and the average was in the low 70s. I put more work into this class than any other this semester and it was the only class I didn't do well in.

Brother Whitchurch is great! I loved the class, but the powerpoints aren't available online, and attendance is taken (like all religion classes). There's a few tests, one paper (do your best and you'll do fine). He really cares about his students and is willing to help. Has LOTS of stories and pictures from time spent in Jerusalem, which is cool.

Professor Whitchurch is a very nice man, however, his class was so difficult. After studying for weeks and memorizing all the material he handed out, I was still blindsided on the test. He goes off on tangents in his lectures and makes continual references to outside sources without stating what they are or how they relate to the class.

The homework was manageable, but the exams were tough. A lot of test questions came from class discussion. Problem is, his lectures seemed haphazard and he went off on tangents and would always be behind on what he wanted to cover. Aside from that, he was a very nice man. He invited the class over to his house for an ice cream social.

Great guy, not that great of a teacher. His tests weren't as much based on solid doctrine or historical timelines, but he liked to pull out the tiny little obscure details and throw them on the tests. There were so many that he pointed out that you didn't know what to study either. I wouldn't recommend him.

Dr. Whitchurch is very smart and gives some great insight. I loved the class, but deffinately the hardest class of the semester. A lot of reading and studying and the tests are really, really hard. You never know what will pop up from random 20 second subjects in class or stuff from the study book he never even went over. great guy, hard class.

I was so excited to take this class, but my enthusiasm waned in this class. The tests are ridiculous and the lectures uninspiring. Sure, you don't have to do a ton of work in this class, but I'd recommend taking it from almost anybody else. He's a nice guy, but it's not worth it.
