I took many classes with Don. He was my favorite teacher at Simon's Rock. He is a genius and makes learning fun. His classes aren't the easiest, but as long as you listen to him and read the book, it's not hard to do well. Take botany or mycology with him, you won't regret it!

Don is a great teacher. You really have to want to learn the subject though. He takes you on really interesting field trips, and you should really take advantage of talking with him after class. He is a genius and is always up for a good debate. Don was the only reason I stayed at Simon's Rock for as long as I did. Take all of his classes.

Comment:
Don is a great guy. However, I think his age and disability are beginning to get the best of him, as he is extremely absent minded and forgetful. He is never clear about what he wants and misplaced several students papers throughout the semester. I felt extremely unprepared for the exams, as classes were spent discussing irrelevant topics.

Don is sort of amazing, but his class is pretty self directed. He'll let you slip by with a C if you really want to, but if you're genuinely interested and make this known he'll help you out. Make sure you talk to him, he's friendly and approachable. He also has tons of life stories that will come out in the course of the class. Enjoy them!

I took Biology & Ecology classes with Don Roeder 20 years ago, and I *still* keenly remember many of our class discussions, exercises, and much of what he taught me. A wonderful teacher, deeply devoted, alive to the key debates of our time. Teaches critical thinking, debating, and research as well as ecology/bio itself. Inspiring.

Although he doesn't strictly adhere to the syllabus, Don's class is engaging and informative. I visited his bio class before coming to the school, and I still remember some of the things he talked about.

Never had Don for a class, but I did work with him on Open Mic Nights- that man is a charmer, and a nice guy, and he can play that banjo like a MOFO! And he sings, too:) Say hi to him around campus-- he's rad.
