Prof Duerfahrd is one of the most insightful, engaging, and energized teachers here at Amherst. As an English major, I wish the department had more profs like him. Most of what I've learned here, I've learned on my own. Prof Duerfahrd is the rare instructor who has pushed me to think in new ways.

Loved this class. He's the only prof who could make a fabulous lecture and lead a great discussion about a video of a man airdrumming to a Metallica album. Not your conventional teacher- much better, in fact.

His discussions are out of control; wittily subversive students tend to easily manipulate the class. He's frequently prepared with the wrong materials. His comments on your papers are quite helpful, but in class his lectures are terrible. You won't learn how to write about film at all.

Duerfahrd is brilliant and friendly. Lives to ask the most probing question for the class, really challenging counter-questions. He runs class with enthusiasm and commitment- I got a page long response on every paper I handed in.

This class was great. Prof tried - and succeeded- in making the material intersting, varied, colorful. Downplayed info spewing and fact regurgiation, took a more creative way. His approach was informal but serious. He took us seriously too.
