Comment:

I have taken many classes with Thompson and his classes are always fun. He keeps lectures interesting, really builds to a climax and tells a whole narrative. Approachable and understanding beyond what should be expected from a professor. He does give a lot of reading but honestly, I learned so much so it is worth it.

Comment:

Dr. Thompson is a great professor! His lectures can be boring at times, but you learn the material. This class was a writing emphasis class, so we had to read/write a lot. He takes you on field trips and makes sure you understand how many different themes are related. Definitely take if you get the chance!

This class was horrendous. I came to Mercer expecting to minor in Southern Studies and was quickly disappointed. The class lectures were long, repetitive and had nothing to do with the papers or writing in general. The lectures were pointless (most the time incorrect) history about the South. All we talked about was racism.

I love Dr. Thompson! He's a great guy, who totally understands his stuff, understands the students, and is totally approachable. His lectures and reading assignments were interesting, and he presented everything in a great way. He's not super easy, but if you ask for help, he'll do everything he can. Would totally take again.

Absolutely wonderful! I hope to have him again. This class pushed me to think outside the box and although I didn't make an A, I do not regret this class whatsoever. It was my favorite class!

Excellent teacher. There is not a ton of work in his class but he does expect you to do what he assigns. If you take this class you will see the world in a different way and learn a ton of stuff! He is unclear on directions usually but if you ask him to explain he will. Very enjoyable class.

He is such a great teacher. I am so grateful that he was my teacher freshman year, and I have been greatly impacted by his classes. Highly recommended! You have to work hard for your grades but it is so worth it in the end!

Great teacher; he let the class take the lead on a lot of discussions, but also directed us when we got off topic. The topic wasn't what I expected, but he really made the class for me. He's a great guy with plenty of knowledge on the South. We had awesome chili while watching O Brother Where Art Thou? at his house :D

Great teacher. The class has been tough, but overall a good experience. Listen to the man and follow his instructions and you will have no problem with the class. However, if you do not, then he can make the class more difficult than it has to be. I recommend him if you want a challenging, but definitely rewarding class.

Altough alot of people like him....as a person, he is a HORRIFIC grader and everything is subjective to his PERSONAL viewpoints. If you are on pre-professional track and you dont have time for petty markdowns, then DO NOT TAKE HIM!! there are way too many easy A fys professors, and he is NOT one of them...

I've had Dr. Thompson before and loved him so I took his capstone. I really enjoyed it; I think most of the class did! Class was enjoyable with some really intense dicussions at times. Lots of laughs, but lots of serious talks as well. He really knows his stuff and challenges your thinking. Lots of reading and writing but totally worth it.

A hell of a guy. He knows his stuff and is really fun to have an academic argument with. If you take him for something in his field, yyou'll learn a lot. I suspect that he's good for fys too. What he writes on the board is not nearly as important as what he says. He'll repeat any key info many times; listen carefully.

Awesome teacher! Cares both about you as a person and what all he can teach you. Has opened my eyes to many different happenings in both the past and the present. A great (but sometimes dry) sense of humor. He is not the easiest of teachers, but if you keep up with your work it isnt a be a prob.He is an awesome guy and I would highly recommend him.

I love him! He's nice, but not really available outside of class that much 4 a face 2 face meeting. He's good at returning calls and answering questions. Wow, he really gets you on TYPOS! 5 points off each. Just use the preceptor that's good and read.

Dr. T is awesome!!! He is truely passionate about his work and his students. He's always willing to listen and help out his students. He makes you think about things you've never considered. His FYS classes were really helpful for freshmen students. If you get the chance take one of his courses. You won't regret it.
