Comment:
He believes in traditional teaching meaning completely lecture based coarses. Also his lectures are long and can get off topic, and repetitive. There's not much paper work and no tests. He's extremely nice and allows extentions. One thing of advice though is do not skip his class.

do not take ANY of his classes. he is the most rude and arrogant person you will ever meet in your life. he is very opinionated and will let you know what he thinks and will tell you, you're an idiot if you think otherwise. he flat out tells the class how stupid he thinks this generation is and calls you lazy. ignore this you're in for real hell.

Very liberal, very opinionated. Pointless to engage in a discussion with him, as he is only hears his own thoughts and rejects all beliefs that run counter to his ones.

Very liberal. Man is genius and will explain things thoroughly if needed. Not the nicest guy (i.e. don’t answer a question with a very inaccurate answer). Participate and put a little effort in and you’ll enjoy his class. I’d definitely take another class with him.

Whittier was one of thebest professors I've had. If you pay attention, he is amusing and inspiring. Got an A, there were only 3 things to hand in all semester (one page responses on a philosophical theory). Great man

Whittier is hilarious because he is not always politically correct. His class is easy as can be as he lets you do the papers over again until you get an A. He likes it when you are active in discussion. Easy class and recommend it to anyone.

Whittier is articulate, interesting, and humorous. His classes are always an enjoyable experience; you will be entertained, but also forced to think. However, he gets sidetracked easily and tends to ramble, which makes discussion difficult at times.

Whittier is stubborn, funny, and difficult ... but his classes are easy if you tell him what he wants to hear. He repeats himself endlessly until the course is over. He has amusing stories to tell which burns time. Overall Whittier is amusing. You certainly learn, but that's up to you and what you think about in class.

If you enjoy being mentally challenged by a fair minded teacher who enjoys showing different viewpoints and lays out the premises for each, P. Whittier is the one for you. He is very entertaining and amusing, drawing upon four score and then some yrs of experience that are filled with remembrances and stories. Be creative in your ideas youll be OK

If you want to regurgitate everything this guy wants to hear, you'll do well. Not for those easily-offended. Always goes over the allotted class time, which is annoying for those who have work afterward. Complains about the same things everyday. An old curmudgeon.

Absolutely my favorite professor to date. He taught the class brilliantly, and made it extremely interesting to boot. Just make sure to show up every day, and to get his occasional assignments completed, and you'll do fine.

Really fun teacher but also a very challenging one. Take note of everything he writes on the board and don't talk in class. Uses very easy-to-understand language while teaching and is really nice once you get to know him.

A brilliant man. If you oppose him on an issue, he'll try to make you back down, but stand your ground, and make valid counter-points, and he will respect that.

Great teacher and probably one of the smartest but under rated professors at UNH. Probably the easiest class to take even though lectures can be boring. However, Whittier has great stories that makes it worth attending class sometimes that tend to be interesting, amusing, and at times downright hilarious. If you go to class, you'll get an A...

I had him for Philosophy of Religion. This guys is freakin nuts, and he's hilarious. But he should be teaching a political science class, he often get worked up about politics (I also keep a tally), which is unrelated to class material. He is completely unorganized, and doesn't tell you his grading plan because he doesn't have one. Great class.

Overall, Whittier is extremely intelligent. I keep a tally sheet to see how many times he mentions George Bush, talk radio, and the Iraq War. His class makes me laugh a lot and I would have to say I look forward to going to it. He does make you think tho because hes trying to teach you conceptional analysis

Whittier is brilliant and needs to be appreciated. His personal stories and anecdotes are amusing. However, his rants about politics, George Bush, and talk radio ARE NOT, and are excessive. Overall the class was helpful and worthwhile in learning critical philosophical analysis. Patience is required.

this man speaks nonsense, everything he says has no ultimate purpose. hes a moron, and he strongly discriminates against conservative students in his classes. he told me to leave his class when i made a point he didnt want to respond to. if you are spineless, foolish, and like nonsense, and want to be whittiers little guru then by all means...

Whittier is an interesting man but sometimes his class can be unbearable. The class I took was kind of a joke and he didn't explain the grading system. He made us write papers that he didn't grade or even use as part of our final grade. Most of the final grade was dependent upon attendance which ultimately screwed me over.
