Comment:
First off, Dr. Becker is an incredibly intelligent guy and loves to teach. However, with that being said, his teaching abilities would be greatly improved if he would simply use technology that students our age are used to. All lectures are 100% verbal with no visual aid. Impossible to contact of outside of class, and does not use email or Canvas.

This class could have been a slam dunk but Dr. Becker does not use any kind of hand outs, visual aids, or Canvas. He hand writes the outline of the notes on a chalk board and lectures like you know exactly what to look for. Never miss lecture or you won't have any way of knowing what you missed unless you want to read through the whole book.

He's a nice old man but doesn't use technology at all so you don't really know your grade in the class until the end (but you can figure it out pretty easily). The only grades are two in class essay exams and one paper but he's a pretty easy grader considering I didn't really know what I was doing and passed.

Very sweet and caring man. Very long, boring hard to follow lectures. REALLY helps if you read the book so you sort of have an idea about the abstract topics discussed. does not slow down or repeat what he says. Only three grades the entire semester. One exam, one paper, one final exam. Have to work hard for an A

Good lecturer. He is articulate and willing to answer questions and accommodate student needs. He tried to cover too many topics in the class I took which made the tests more difficult than they would have been if he had chosen a more suitable course load, but the class was certainly worth showing up to each time.

He should use power points and not read his notes at 100 mph and expect us to get all of it down. Not a good teacher at all, and with only three grades throughout the whole course it was a tough class.

Dr. Becker is an excellent professor and certainly is one of the best in the Philosophy Dept. Political Philosophy is a very worthwhile course AND is much better than any Political Theory course offered from the Poli Sci Dept. Go to class, write down what he says, and you will never have to read the material (though I recommend you do!)

I loved the class. Those who don't enjoy philosophy even enjoy this class. It covers topics that are very controversial in today's age and examines the pros and cons of both ends. Becker does a great job at teaching it!

Honestly learned most of the information from my TA, but I did enjoy Professor Becker's lectures. He's a very interesting person and seems like someone that would be an awesome grandpa. You don't really HAVE to read, but if you don't do the readings then you basically have to go to class.

Moves very fast in lectures so I would recommend typing your notes. He is very good about making sure everyone understands, since some topics are very confusing. Boring lectures but overall not a very hard class. Only two grades- midterm and final (both essays).

Very intelligent guy, but boring to listen to...it may be the lack of visual aids. He is very good about answering questions though.

Professor Becker is smart and very knowledgeable about philosophy. I failed the first time, but retook it years later and learned a lot. Read the assignments and take notes in class. Ask question if you're uncertain. Grading is suspect.

I LOVE this professor! He gets so excited about the subject he teaches, and when students show that they understand him, he grins from ear to ear. He's the nicest guy, and willing to answer any question to ask him! Highly recommended!
