She tells you how to make your art better. Some people take this to heart and get offended but that's how art works. She's nice and gives you good advice and was really flexible, she let me take an extra week on an assignment because I had fallen behind!

Lol @ some of the critiques here. The people that don't like her thought art classes are an easy A like this is high school, sorry but it's still a college class. Actually put effort into your work, show that you care, and actually make adjustments based on critiques and you'll do fine. It's crazy how much I improved after taking her class. Loved.

Elaine seems like a nice person in the beginning but as the semester goes on she really comes off as completely fake and lacking any genuine care for her students. I found her to be super disrespectful towards my work and the effort I put in. She also has a general bad attitude and will snap at you during class for no reason.

Elaine is really sweet and a fun teacher overall! I learned a lot from her and I definitely hope I can take another class from her in the future. She's always willing to answer questions and really listens to what her students have to say.

Many people seem to be bashing Elaine for being a "harsh grader". True she doesn't hand out A's but if you listen carefully, work hard and take her critiques and apply them YOU WILL BECOME A BETTER ARTIST. Her classes are meant to help YOU help YOURSELF. All Elaine is looking for is improvement and dedication.

She was my favorite art prof; I took 3 of her courses. A lot of people say she is unclear or a tough grader. All you have to do is LISTEN to the feedback she gives you, THINK about it, and apply it. She isn't going to tell you which paintbrush to use like Bob Ross. She teaches you how to think about art, and ultimately, how to teach yourself.

She is very confusing. Has a bad grading system: you could put your heart, soul, and blood into your work and still get a bad grade. I did! Not even the art majors knew what we were doing at times. Textbook is pretentious and useless, "workbooks" are a waste of time. We had to spend about $30 for extra material in addition to the $50 course fee.

Her lack of clarity isn't exactly because she's a poor professor, it's because she's trying to challenge you to think critically about your own work. Art isn't a subject where there is a "right" and "wrong" way to do something, and I think she recognizes that and encourages you to develop conceptually without hindering your personal perogative.

If you are an art major you will not have too much of a problem - if you are not good at art i would stay away from this class. The teacher does not teach anything - all she does is baby sit you. She never picked a paintbrush up during the entire semest
