Comment:
When I first had Frank (2014), it was in a large lecture hall, and I will admit it was not the most exciting class. However, I had him in a smaller class (2017) and realized I had been completely wrong. He is a genuinely kind, intelligent, and interesting professor and I'm glad I got to know him better. He's the best in upper-level courses.

Frank is a great person in general, but he is not that great of a professor. He often contradicts what he says and when I ask questions about the material, I am often left even more confused than before. Okay class, just think he could use somework with communication and consistency.

Frank is one of the best professors I have had at the University of Iowa. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches, and although the class (specifically the tests) can be hard, if you put in the work Frank will work with you to make sure you understand everything. He's been a mentor and I would strongly recommend taking any class from him.

Frank is a good guy. He knows his stuff and wants his students to succeed. He definitely isn't an easy professor but I came out of his class with a lot of helpful knowledge to take into my future career. He's also pretty funny!

Comment:
Durham is monotonous, quiet, and uninteresting. He has unreasonable expectations. He acts like everyone should have no problem reading a quote from William Lloyd Garrison and identifying that Garrison not only wrote it, but wrote it in the Liberator in 1832 after Maria Stewart gave a speech and Frederick Douglass wrote a different article.

Frank is a great guy. He keeps the class interesting and has a great amount of knowledge in regards to the subject he is teaching. The essay-based tests are difficult, but work hard and you'll be ok. He cares about teaching and will always be willing to help you outside of class.

Frank is the sweetest. He really does want you to do well, but he's a pretty tough grader. His lectures are not that exciting. Many people struggled with him. and you will be studying for a while. But if you put in a lot of effort and remember everything you'll be good!

Frank is a great professor. He is really friendly and actually takes time to talk to students before/after class. One thing I would have to say is that Frank is very liberal but as college students, everyone should be able to handle differing worldviews whether they accept or reject them.

One of the best professors I have had the privilege to study with. I know some people don't like him or the work load but I think that is usually only for those who take the class as a gen. ed. and are not studying journalism or mass comm. The work load was not bad and I learned more in this class than in a few other classes combined. GREAT.

Required journalism class. Frank is a pretty decent guy with a dry sense of humor. Don't worry about showing up to every lecture (he posts the notes online before exams), but there will be easy clicker quizzes that you could miss out on if you don't go. Difficult essay exams but if you study hard you'll be fine; they're graded generously by TAs.

Prof. Durham is obviously really passionate about his courses, but they can be hard to follow if you don't love them as much as he does. He talks at a level above what is required, but I found it super interesting to hear his perspectives. Exams are essay based so study hard and you'll be fine! TAs were pretty lenient.

I did not enjoy his class at all. He lectured at a level way beyond what I thought was necessary. It seemed like he knew alot about the topic, but had a hard time getting it across. Expectations for the essay exams were ridiculous.

Frank is a really nice guy who is so passionate and intelligent about this topic. You can learn a ton from this class. It is slightly unorganized and can get overwhelming at times however. Exams are very difficult but the long paper and homework is not near as difficult.

Professor Durham is my all-time favorite professor. This topic could have easily been boring but he is so passionate about it that it has made it my favorite class. I enjoy lecture most, and every word he says is worth writing down! The man is brilliant and eloquent, and funny! Think Seinfeld :) I recommend buying a digital recorder for lecture.

I'm not even a journalism major, but figured the course looked intriguing. Professor Durham is AWESOME! He is so very knowledgeable and obviously enjoys the topic. Plus, he plays music before lecture! Open to questions, interacting with students, etc. One of the best professors I've encountered at the university!

He is very, very good at what he does. He's so passionate about the class and he gets you excited. He has a dull voice but once you get past that, he's exciting. There are pop quizzes during lectures, so DON'T miss out on them. Homework is easy. Great class to take.
