One of the best professors I have ever taken at Hofstra. He seriously cares about helping his students do better grade wise as well as students developing better writing skills. From someone who absolutely despises writing, he managed to make the class fun and enjoyable the time. I recommend taking him for this course.

Cares for students and gives the chance to revise, yet a very tough grader over the smallest things. Boring lectures, boring assignments, don't really learn much in the class.

Nice man, but its an English class not an art class. We had to study paintings and write papers about them and apply them to writing studies. It was absolutely ridiculous. If he didn't like it then thats that. I dont't recommend if you want to pass with an A or B.

Ok.. I dont recommend taking him for WSC unless hes your final option. Readings are excruciatingly boring, as you are given barely any help to understand them.. Highly recommend Prof. Dandridge if youre at Hofstra. Faaaaar better at teaching the subject, makes the class funny and I learned a lot about my writing!

Dedicated professor. Although I thought that I was a good writer coming into university, his class proved me WRONG. He cares about his students but is relatively a hard grader. You need to be absolutely sure you are a good writer before you walk in his class to get an easy A. If you don't think you are a good writer get ready to put in WORK.

Loved this professor. Interesting discussions and you will enjoy and get more out of this class if you participate. About 5 papers all semester. Pretty easy. Most papers were 2-4 pages except the final. Professor G is amazing, a fun dedicated teacher who genuinely cares about his students.

Couldn't ask for a better professor in this course! Sooo committed to get me to pass the class! A previous professor for this course was insensitively rude and refused to work with me, but Gaughan?? WOW!! His resilient effort and success is unbelievably spectacular! Truthfully, his essays are difficult to understand but worth your time! Take him!!!

This *can* be easy class, but you need to put the work in. His grades are mostly based on 3 essays, which can later be rewritten for a better grade (HINT HINT, GO TO THE WRITING CENTER). Just pay attention in class. I know someone who failed this, but only because he never bothered to try. Listen Gaughan's feedback and you'll do well. That's it.

Professor Gaughan brought my writing skills to another level! He is extremely nice and willing to help anyone who asks and shows interest. There are three essays and one final. He also lets you revise your papers. There is no reason to not do well in his class! Take him!

He is OK. You will read a lot of difficult and boring essays. The 3 papers are this: an exploratory essay, a literature review, and a persuasive essay. The most difficult one was the exploratory essay and myself and a lot of my peers received poorer grades on it. Does group work. One presentation on the persuasive essay. Encourages questions.

If you want an A in his class, you will have to work for it. He allows revisions and you should definitely take advantage of them. He is a tough grader but he wants you to do well. His lectures put me to sleep almost every class. I wouldn't take him again because the essays were so boring to write and they became overwhelming.

Difficult professor with short daily assignments and a huge focus on the three large essays(worth most of your grade); however, I did learn so much and my writing has improved significantly despite doing well in AP lit and Lang in high school. Would recommend. He knows his stuff and teaches very well.

Professor Gaughan is an excellent teacher. Knowledgeable in the subject and cares very deeply about the entire class understanding and improving. When I worked hard, I got As. When I didn't, I got Bs and Cs, but he lets everyone resubmit essays for a new grade. 3 essays over the semester, and he's a great teacher. If you want to do well, you will.

This class was incredibly boring and annoying. Like other people said, this isn't entirely his fault, but if you think taking a mandatory writing class is already a pain, look elsewhere. That being said, if you do care about WSC, he's not too bad

He has a very monotone voice so his lectures seem long and boring. He also is a tough grader on papers but offers good feedback and does allow rewrites. He is very helpful and understanding though and will listen to and question what you say. He can be funny at times too.
