Alright, Gene is a complicated man in the sense that most simple minded people won't understand him. Yeah you'll read and read and read and do work which will have no barring on your grade. Just get over it. Go in with an open mind and try to be quiet and only open your mouth after much thought is put into what you're about to say.

This class had no direction. We spent more time trying to decide what we wanted to learn than actually learning it. Also displays favoritism. Gave my friend an A who did practically nothing and I got a C for a moderate amount of work. Will never take him again!

Gene is a nice, funny guy with an interesting view on things. Some people think he tries to belittle your views, when he is in fact just trying to open your mind and make you think about what you are saying. He is one of my favorite professors and I recommend taking one of his classes if you can.
