He explains the concepts fairly well, but doesn't show examples on how to actually solve problems. I was always unsure what to do when I went to do the homework and had to spend a lot of time in the tutoring lab. I've taken a physics class before at another college and it was way easier to understand there.

So I actually took Stokes at UVU for PHYS2020. I thought he was really solid. His tests are really hard, especially the multiple choice sections, but he has an extremely lenient grading scale. I finished the class with a 67% and ended up with a B-. He is very passionate about physics, would definitely take again.

I wasn't too impressed by him. His tests were only a few questions long, which made them so difficult. He would claim not to be tricky, but then throw in a trick or too. You would study oodles of information only to be tested on 5 stupid questions that in now way represented what you learned.

Love this Man! So much enthusiasm for the subject matter, it's contagious. Explains well, albeit physics is just a hard subject. Get help understanding the concepts from the TAs in the lab because much of your grade is based off your ability to apply concepts in a novel situation by answering multiple choice story problems on the tests.

Stokes's format for teaching is the same from 105 to 106. He's not the greatest at teaching some of the physics concepts in class but he's probably the best 105 & 106 teacher at BYU. Do all the homework assignments and study hard by using the lecture clips online and you'll get an A in the class.

Good class. Watch the lecture clips before the test and redo the homework and you'll get an A. Don't buy the book! Just go up to the physics lab and read before class. You'll be glad you did.

Prof. Stokes cares about the success of his students more than any other teacher I've had at BYU. Solutions to homework questions are posted quickly after grading, and he posts lecture clips that really bring the material together when you review before tests. The class itself can be challenging, but Prof. Stokes makes every effort help. Good man.

Stokes class was my favorite by far. He is a funny old man who is socially awkward. My favorite quote from him is by far "if you don't understand ask your neighbor if they know what the hell is going on"... priceless from a byu professor. 1005 recommend this teacher. Would take classes from him every semester if I was a physics nerd.

Stokes may not explain things crystal clear all the time but he goes above and beyond for his students. He does demonstrations almost every class. All lectures are posted as videos online and their are homework videos as well. Look over those videos before tests to do well. Initially though, you need to go to lab to know how to do hmwrk.

I adored Dr. Stokes! I always looked forward to coming to his lectures. It is obvious that he really cares about his students. The tests aren't bad if you put in the time; he prepares you well for them. Take advantage of his lecture and homework clips, they are wonderful.

He is a very nice guy and his class is entertaining and is a very easy A. I just think that a physics professor should actually teach you physics instead of entertain you. He relied to heavily on the book to teach you physics and spent his class time having fun. Really easy A in my opinion though.

Professor Stokes is amazing! He is an incredible teacher. I never left class confused about the concepts he had taught. Plus he's hilarious! His tests can be a bit tricky but they're primarily conceptual (which you may or may not like), the few numerical problems he has on his tests are a piece of cake. Can't say enough good things about this guy!

I love Dr. Stokes! His lectures are entertaining, and he is great at explaining hard concepts. His demonstrations are applicable and memorable. He cares about his students. Homework load is doable, tests aren't bad at all if you study a little bit and review the lecture clips he posts. Can't imagine taking this class from anyone else!

Good teacher, who actually likes teaching students. Attendance is a must as many of his test questions are directly addressed in-class only. He provides lecture clips to review, so use those. Read the book, go to class, do the homework on time, and then take an hour to watch his clips before a test. You'll be fine, and learn lots. Grading is fair.

Dr. Stokes requires you to read the textbook, but it's not much help. Homework is based entirely off of what he teaches in lecture. His tests are largely weighted on concepts, and he's always trying to trick you, so they can be tough at times. If you want to do well: know how to do the homework, watch his lecture clips online, and attend class.

Wonderful professor. I had no interest in physics prior to taking this class, and dreaded taking it, but I am excited to take physics 106 next semester. Stokes is a funny and comprehensive professor, whose love of physics rubbed off on me. Class is extremely fair. GO TO THE TUTORIAL LAB FOR HOMEWORK

easiest physics teacher you'll find @ BYU. He doesn't use or test you on the book, don't EVER use it. No need to take notes in class, he puts all the material covered on the tests on online videos. All you need to do in this class is study the online videos and hw problems. 3/4 midterms I got 100%. RECOMMENDED!! FUNNY GUY!
