Mr. Rivas has since retired but I am so glad that all of my CRSCI classes were with him as my Professor. The hands on learning learning with Guest Speakers and Field Trips and volunteer opportunities gave more than a text book can ever teach.

Professor Rivas is a great teacher. He is softspoken but still good at what he does. He does not teach like other teachers, he uses fieldtrips and guest speakers to really bring what he is teaching to life.

Rivas tends to repeat stories again and again. Most of his class do not even attend and still pass. I attended each class, even though it seemed like it didn't matter. I find it unfair to the students who attend since it seems like any one can attend the first day then take the final and pass easily. He allows books and electronics on finals, too.

Easy class but he does not know how to grade or teach a class properly. You can be absent for 5 weeks and he wouldn't know it. He gave me a B on my midterm when I thought I for sure got an A. So I gave it back to him to check it but all he did was look at my name and crossed the B to an A. I should have asked what was the difference the first time?

With "RESPECT" to Mr Rivas. He is truly the best professor I have ever had. His fieldtrips and guest speakers really bring what he is teaching to life. Although he does use text books. Those books are nothing compared to seeing the real thing.

Mr. Rivas is a truly good professor who teaches with heart and compassion! He is the BEST corrections teacher I've had and I enjoy ALL his lectures, guest speakers and the field trips assigned to the courses. Mr. Rivas is so great!! He is truly passionate about everything he does and really cares about his students. If you take any of his classes expect tons of field trips and guest speakers. If you attend the classes and let him help you he can open plenty of doors for you to get your career started. I can't say enough on behalf of him he is fantastic!

Professor Rivas is a totally AWESOME teacher in the Corrections arena! He by far is the BEST teacher and Professor out there and truly a great man. His classes are very informativ and he CARES about his students. Love ALL the field trips and the BEST GREAT SPEAKERS that come on his behalf. He is a teaching legend and I would recommend him highly.

I have taken Rivas for all my correctional classes. he is a good teacher. i not only teaches you things from the txt. but from his on expierences. all the trips he takes you to are great. my opinion on buyting the class text book is not necessary. unless he changes his form of teaching.but for the past 4 semesters he has been the same so far. nev

I don't understand how people can miss so many classes and expect to learn. Mr. Rivas class is so easy to pass and you even need the text book usually...his methods are greater then a text book. Take him and don't miss class, but if you do you can still pass by completing the assignments but you'll really miss out!
