Comment:
Professor Zimmerman is one of the most celebrated organic chemists in the history of time. His contributions to science were nothing less than astounding. You're fortunate to have him as a teacher. Get off your butts and learn to study! He's highly conversant, intelligible, easy to understand, and takes interest in his students.

Comment:
Easiest to get an A if you can get a hold of his old exams. Be careful of common molecule names and you still have to go to lecture to hear little details he'll put on the quizzes and exams. If you want to learn OChem for the MCAT though, don't take this with him. He's very incoherent because he has a German accent and had a stroke.

He's a cute old man, grandpa-like, but DO NOT TAKE HIM for ochem if you actually want to learn anything. You'll get an A with minimal effort, but when the MCAT rolls around you'll be screwed.

Serious students should not take this class. Don't bother asking for help or trying to understand the material. The Chemistry Department knows there is a problem and will not do anything about it.

So many people say he's terrible... okay, so his teaching is subpar, but if you take notes, look them over for ~45 min the night before the quiz, and get hold of old quizzes, you'll get something like 95-100% no problem. Get a 100 on his 1st exam and he'll invite you to do research in his lab!

I am sure he was a brilliant professor at one point during his career but someone has to help him give up teaching. It really isn't fair for students who want to learn and prepare themselves especially for the MCAT.

He's a brilliant man, and I'm sure he has done wonders for organic research, but he is a truly horrible professor. If you are only concerned with getting an A, then his course is the one to take, but if you plan to take the MCATs, be well aware that Zimmerman's course will not prepare you at all, and you won't learn ANYTHING.

Absolutely worthless!!! I think he has finally figured out that people just look at the old exams so he tries to get all tricky by changing minor details that mess you up if you have just memorized the old quizzes. Take anyone but him!! I have learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

One token of advice: Memorize the old exams. If you do, you'll get an A without having to study. If not, you'll be totally screwed.

Great lectures! He makes his expectations clear for each section and goes over most of them. His use of colored chalks makes mechanisms much easier to follow. He does use the same problems year after year, and many students benefit from memorizing old quizes and exams (if you have the connections). Be aware that there IS NO PARTIAL CREDIT!!!

Worst Professor Ever! As long as you have the old tests, simply MEMORIZE THEM... in detail. The tests are all or nothing. Either way, you won't learn a single thing and you'll mostly sleep in class. Don't take this class if you actually want to learn anything in college.

Wow. That's all I have to say. I have NOT opened my textbook once, I just memorized old exams and I have gotten 100% on all 10 quizzes so far and 100% on both exams so far. Take him, seriously.

If you have to take a year of ochem, take Reich first so you learn a lot, then take Zimmerman second semester. Everything you learned from Reich will give you the background youll need, and the old tests and quizzes will give you everything else. I hope you have a friend who can hook you up.

Wow. What a great guy. I got an A. I'm so happy. MEMORIZE THE OLD EXAMS. GET AS MANY OLD EXAMS AS YOU CAN. you may think that he came up with a whole new set of questions for a certain exam, but if you go back far enough into his older exams, you will find that they were simply old questions that hadn't been used for a while.

so he may not be the best professor you've ever had, at least you can walk out of 2nd semester ochem with an A. and to me, that's all that matters.
