Dr. Pruss always picks a collection of amazing stories for the semester. Participating in class discussions is a huge part of your grade as well as reading each story thoroughly. There isn't a midterm or final for the class so everything you do in class counts but she does give out extra credit opportunities to help you improve. She really does care.

Do not take this class. professor is very particular and likes it only her way. I went to the writing center several times and they also agreed that she is the most picky professor they have seen.

Cool selection of stories. A little out-there but fascinating class. This prof really cares about you future and not about being popular. She wants you to succeed when it counts, so she really teaches. Not for slackers!

Dr Pruss offers a challenging course holding you accountable which is an important life lesson on itself and prepared me for the real world. You need to earn your grade for her class but it is because she CARES and doesnt simply pass you along.

Do not recommend. Her expectations are extremely high and she is by far the toughest grader i have ever had. She marks you off a lot of points for the smallest mistakes. She is a nice person one on one but i did not enjoy her a as teacher. Do not take her courses

You can learn a lot of life and writing lessons from Dr. Pruss. However, she does grade by opinion and heavily emphasizes that you see her during her office hours. I would not recommend taking a course of her's if you have a tight schedule. But if you have to, just participate, visit her for revisions, and pretend you're an SJW. You'll do fine.

Comment:
Dr. Pruss' grading criteria is incredibly inconsistent. She grades on opinion, which usually changes daily. I lost all respect for her when she played a multimedia project about drug violence and guns the same day a weapon was reported on our campus. She is very insensitive. Would not take again.

I am the same student below who wrote about my ENG 106 class, and after managing to get an A in this class and impressing her with my multimedia project, I can safely say Ingrid is a teacher that has made a long-lasting and positive experience on my life, taught me more about myself than I planned on, and allowed me to express myself to the max.

Participation is crucial to grade. Go bother her in her office as much as possible or she will not take you seriously. She grades on opinion, and the multimedia project is impossible without her feedback. She disagreed about one of my pictures and deducted me 2 letter grades because i could not meet with her the same day she emailed me. so eh

As you can see by my major, I am not at all into English, but Ive gotten an A in every English class Ive taken since sophomore year. Ingrids class was the exception to this, however, I can safely say I have never in my life been more challenged to do well in a class. I managed to prove myself to her, and thats an accomplishment on its own.

I think she is a good professor. She is a tough grader but as long as you participate and do all the work she asks you to do you can do good in that class.

Just no. Don't take this teacher if you are can avoid it. She changes her grading criteria at the last minute and gives inconsistent feedback. She got mad at me for raising my hand too much and then said that "you have very important viewpoints and you should raise your hand more often"... What? It's just not worth it.

Let me start by saying I don't dislike Dr. Pruss, however I found that she seems to lack some social graces. One classmate dropped after Dr. Pruss outed her as recovered from an ED based on the girl's inference of a story. She changes grading criteria and syllabus contents on the fly, then becomes irritated at our questions. I could go on.

I took Dr. Pruss's class fall 2017 and I was very hesitant at first about how I would like her teaching but I'm really glad that I stuck around. Yes she was a tough grader, but she really does help improve your writing. I'm very happy that she makes a point to have a personal relationship with you, she'll help you through anything. Loved her <3

Tough grader, grading pattern extremely confusing. sometimes she grades using letters, other times you get a number grade, even on the same type of assignment. although she could be worse I don't exactly agree with the glowing reviews of her on here. This is my only English course i've taken at wcsu, but I would probably not recommend her...

Took Dr. Pruss's class last semester. I had recently been medically discharged from the military and was having personal issues. I wasnt doing well at the beginning of the semester, but she never gave up on me. She actually drove me to do better and take an interest in my future. I owe her very much. She comes off tough but is fair and caring.

Dr. Pruss was very tough at first. I never thought I would make it through her class. We started with over 30 students and ended with about 15. It was tough but overall I learned so much and it pays off. This class truly taught me how to write. Your HAVE to read and pay attention at all times. She is very interesting and good hearted!

Dr. Pruss is probably the best professor I've ever had. I heard a lot of bad things before and during the semester but I couldn't disagree more. She makes you work for a good grade. She always tries to inspire her students and facilitate good conversation. I highly recommend going to see her for extra help!!!
