He is probably one of the nicest professors at Stony Brook! He is extremely helpful and he is absolutely genuine. The reading is a little dry--but he makes up for it with his engaging and often funny lectures. I found myself telling everyone about what I learned in his class. He was a great teacher and his class was a wonderful experience.

Very helpful, nice, and no textbook. If you're not good at tests that require different ways of reading the questions/answers (a bit obscure but understandable) this may be a tougher course for you. All articles are dry/research, but the lectures are interesting! Biggest con your grade = ONLY 3 TESTS, so you NEED to do well on them. ;)

This guy is ridiculously nice. He clearly explains everything and puts all the articles needed for class online so there's no textbook. Classes are really interesting and if you go and take decent notes, you'll do well.

Professor Chase is great! His tests are very fair and if you go to class, you will do great. There is no text book, all articles. I got an A on the last test and didn't read anything. I just went to every class.

Professor Chase is mad chill. He's from the South and has a laid back attitude. His pace is perfect, and he makes sure everyone understands all the material. There is no textbook; all the information is online! You MUST do the readings...if you go to class, study, and read, you will definitely do well.

He is an amazing teacher. He's funny and friendly and his SOC355 course is both interesting and easy. There is no textbook for this course, he puts readings online but even if you dont read them and you go to class you should do well. Attendance is not mandatory but going to class deffinately helps you.

no textbook; articles posted online to read. he discusses the assigned article during the following class period- and that's all we do. (attendance not mandatory, but you'll definitely perform pretty poorly on the exams if you don't go). let's class out a good 30 minutes (or more) early. funny, sweet guy. 3 exams, none are cumulative.

He's an easy professor. Book isn't totally necessary but exams are open book and note. Attendance not mandatory but he doesn't post homework on blackboard or anything like that. He's a nice guy and makes sure everyone understands. He let the class out early fairly often too. Take him for 201.

Exams are open book and pretty straightforward. Don't necessarily need to go to class but be there the day of the review session if you don't go any other time since he goes over all the formulas and times to use them that you'll need. There are also projects and an optional final if the class decides to do a project.

He didn't use blackboard in this class, which made attendance mandatory even though he didn't "formally" take attendance. Miss a day, and you miss a ton of content. The TA did all the grading, basically he or she will be your God of the class. With that said, it's not a difficult course, but you must be vigilant with it. Many HWs (though easy).

His class is fairly easy. There is no text book but you need to read the articles that he posts on BB. Attendance is not mandatory but you should attend class because it helps clarify what he's looking for in the articles that you read for the test(articles have a lot of info you don't need to know). The tests aren't too hard.

I felt it was interesting, because I'm an animal lover. But, the exams were hard for me, even though i read the articles. The exams are worded like a psychology exam. ( just weird, wasn't as simple as he makes it) He does give exam reviews the class before the exam. Attendance not mandatory, but you should go most notes are given in class.

I recommend taking Chase for SOC 201. The projects are quite simple if you answer all questions thoroughly. Also, group work is not required, unlike the other 201 classes. The exams are a bit tricky so read the questions carefully. Pay attention during lectures.

Very interesting and intelligent teacher. Works in the field so he makes it that much more interesting. Only 3 tests and the first is pretty tough. No expensive texts because all the readings are on blackboard. Do the readings and attend class (which is not mandatory, but reallly helps) and you'll get an A.

Excellent class... took it as a DEC requirement and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes this semester. He is very enthusiastic, funny, and a great teacher. The exams are a little tricky, but if you go to class and read the papers you will be fine.
