He really knows and loves Math, which can make him hard to follow if you're not the best mathematician. However, he's really generous with the grades. Even though I didn't really get a lot of the material, I still got a B+.

Explains topics well, but briefly. Willing to help, but sometimes tends to be impatient if the student isn't getting it or isn't trying. He expects you to stay up on the work. He prepares you well for tests.

Hands down the most scholarly teacher in the Math Department. Take his class if you LOVE math and the beauty of mathematical modeling. I think he's awesome. He was very helpful during office hours, too.

I sat in front of the class eager to learn, and when I asked questions he would make fun of me in front of the class. He spent too much time proving instead of HOW to do the math. Homework load wasn't that bad at all, but it was hard to learn with his "teaching" style.

Comment:
He sometimes gets carried away in the beauty of math and spends time proving things when time could be better spent helping the class understand the basic comments. He requires that each class member spend some time on the board doing problems in front of the class. This responsibility is rotated and results in a more prepared class.

Definitely don't take the honors part of this class if you've never had calculus before--it moves pretty fast. Overall, a decent teacher--the workload wasn't horrible and he was really willing to help anyone who was making a good effort. The book is horrible, but Dr. Cannon makes math a better experience than many other teachers.
