Shea is a great professor. He's very funny and quirky, and likes to talk about his family. The textbook is mandatory--but he'll give you plenty of time to acquire it. He really makes you work for your grade, and gives great feedback on every paper.

Comment:

This class was very interesting and had a good balance in reading and writing. However, beware: if you do not have a good grasp with his learning curve, you will not do well. Overall, this is a great class for those who can understand the tough material.

Have taken 2 classes with Shea (both topics courses-- Stylistics Analysis and Class Tropes) just because he's so awesome and can make any topic funnyinteresting. His classes will challenge your idea of what makes a good writer, and these insights improve your own writing. Will miss him when I graduate, and would take him again in a heartbeat.

Basically one of my favorite professors at UNM. He's funny, brilliant, and humble. I'm a style baby and next semester I'll be a Trope baby. If you want to learn how to write beautifully then you need to take Shea's classes!
