Comment:

Joachim has a fair knowledge of what she teach but she has other problems. One is that at times she is unorganized , changes assignments , dates etc , grades everything late, two months after you submit , does not trust her students and if you take online with her , she may ask you take your tests on site. She is tough and difficult to work with.

I don't know what these other reviews are talking about... I took a class with Joachim and she's amazing. Really sweet and easy to approach if you respect her and her class! Show up, ask questions, be involved and there will be no problems. Material wasn't hard and she was more than willing to thoroughly answer any questions students had.

I do not recommend taking this course from this teacher. Her expectations are way too high. I worked really hard on all my assignments and always came up short.

Do not take this professor, her expectations are overboard. Let me make this clear for you, I am on the Dean's list and I had to wrack my brain for 15+ hours a week just to get a high grade. She expects far too much. Assignments were often graded over a month late, and posted online late in the week, which made it all the more difficult to pass.

Posted a lot of conflicting information and wasn't clear about what was expected on exams. Sometimes assignments for the week weren't posted until Tuesday or Wednesday, making it difficult to complete things on time.

I had to drop this class due to the crazy amount of work. For a 200 level class this is to much. I do not recommend anyone to take this class, if you can avoid taking it do so.

I had to drop this class because the workload was ridiculous! I have taken many online classes and this was by far the most difficult one. It's also hard to understand what she expects of you. I do not recommend taking her class unless you have tons of time on your hands!

I had Gorilla Obs with her, she is amazing! She is very passionate about her job and knows the gorillas so well. There are weekly assignments that can be challenging but it's a 450 level class you should expect that. I definitely recommend her and this class! She is very helpful and she really knows her stuff.

Currently taking this class. Really confused on what she wants. She tells you one thing but posts another, feels like she doens't have time to teach this class properly. Quizzes are really hard and weighted a lot. I would not recommend.

Dr Joachim is awesome! Show up and do the assignments on time and you will not have any problems. I just took her Gorilla observ. lab I and i loved it so much so im taking her in the fall for the advanced Gorilla Observ Lab II. She is so interesting, has tons of really great information, super friendly and approachable. She knows her stuff!

Currently taking her class. This professor is intelligent and really does know her material. She provides extensive notes and lectures. She does have challenging exams such as lengthy essays that require you to get your gear going in your head. The only downfall is that it would be nice if she provided study guides for the midterm and final exams.

She is a WONDERFUL professor, and I am somewhat baffled by some of her reviews on this site. While she does not reply to e-mails, she will be MORE than willing to work with you if you speak to her in person before or after class. If you participate in class and make the effort to learn, it should be one of the easiest courses you will ever take.

She is very informative with very clear lectures. Her tests are slightly harder than most with multiple choice, short answer/essay questions. She definitely knows her stuff. You will gain much information from her, but might have to study and attend class consistently

I love Dr Joachim. She is a female Indiana Jones. I first took her for a required cognition class and she made a boring subject interesting by peppering it with stories from her time studying primates in Costa Rica. She is kinda hard but not unreasonably so. Definitely take her classes!

Great professor! The material was definitely challenging, but she really worked to help me understand it all. She presented the topics in an interesting. Tests were straight from lecture and the texts. I learned a lot from her class. Recommended.

Taken two classes. By far the most competent professor in the UNM psy dept. Excellent lecture, presents challenging *applicable* tests. Will engage in active conversation in class. and *gasp* teach! Very effective. Those that complain about her material/test difficulties did not study properly. Go to class, do the reading, take notes.

She is a great professor and truly understands her field. The tests were difficult only that they were not fill in "the blank or multiple choice" - she required essays. However, if you study and pay attention in the class you will end up w/ a great education. I would recommend her IF you will work hard and study because you will learn more.
