Laferty is a pretty cool guy. He likes to give extra time in class for the students to be as productive as possible. He is very approachable, gives good advice and is overall a solid professor. The beard is a plus.

he's a really good teacher and a nice guy. The only complaint i have is that he doesn't post the grades on blackboard. EVER. so if you want your grades during the semester, HOUND HIM. other than that, its some pretty boring material but he's talented enough to keep you awake for it. :]

To those who don't like Matt's class, I say your loss. I happen to think he's the best teacher/scholar at Binghamton. If you disagree, hey, de gustibus non est disputandum and all that, but the guy can repeat Spin articles verbatim from 15 years ago. The beard comments are simply not relevant to his talents and are rather beyond the pale.

Very clear and understandable discussions. Definitely more of a 'dis' than a 'lect'. Moderately difficult and heavily weighted papers, but plenty of help available. K. Deys is a good TA. Laferty & Deys are a good pair. Definitely a bit of neo-hippie in each of them. Mandatory attendance.

Out of the two professors we had for this class, Laferty was the best. He was very helpful with any type of problem, and he is always willing to answer any sort of question. He knows a lot about music which you wouldn't expect. Watch out tho- this class had mandatory attendence with boring lectures

Eric (Matt) and I just did not see eye to eye. I was too cynical for him. Too much work for a 1 credit BS writing class. The entire discussion of ethics in conjunction with the WTSN111/112 classes was a complete load of crap. You learn "make the most people happy" rather than do the right thing.

Absolutely great professor, with a look no mere can attain. Helpful, clear, and ENG 114m was an easy class to take. He and Jim were a great team.
