Took her in Fall 2014. She is definitely the best professor for ENG 214 as it is a hard class with most other professors. You write about 6 papers (all on global warming) and as long as you tailor your essays to her beliefs she will give you an A. Class is really laid back, we even watched a movie on climate change! She is very easy! There are 6 papers. 5 are one page and 1 is a 5 page research paper. She gives tons of extra credit! If you are confused go to office hours and she will help you. I loved her! If you can talk about climate change then you should get an A. I got a B because I didn't take the papers seriously. Highly recommend! TAKE HER!

Comment:

Joan Flippin was the most lenient professors at San Francisco State University. She always clarifies an assignment if students are confused. Her assignments include memorandums, proposal, group presentation, & plenty of group work.(most assignments could be edited for a higher grade)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JOAN! She cracks me up, she knows State so well, and she's not afraid to say all the crap everyone else is thinking. You have 4 one page essays, & one 4-5 page essay. She motivated me to research what I was interested in which made it easy to write. She teaches grammar that no teacher has ever helped me understand. TAKE HER!!

Such a sweet lady! Really helpful and a really easy class. 3 one page papers and 1 five page research paper as well as quick 10 question homework assignments. She's a very easy grader and is always giving out extra credit. Highly recommend her class.

Professor Flippin is an amazing teacher! She's very witty and has a great sense of humor. She was very clear about what she expected from us, and was always willing to help if students had questions. You also get to watch several movies for the ENG 214 course, which was fun. I adored her class! I would highly recommend her!

By far one of my favorite classes, and I usually hate English class. Professor is funny, topics are very interesting. You will write many essay but it is enjoyable since the topics are very relevant. Definitely recommend her!

Awesome class. Joan seems a little scurry at first, but do not worry she is quite nice. She has a very dry humor that really grows on you and makes the class enjoyable. You write 2-3 page essays regularly, they are not very difficult and she is an easy grader. LOTS of extra credit and group work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

At first she seemed strict and intimidating but she turned out to be a sweetie. Her dry humor and commentary kept the class interesting. Most of our discussions and questions were done in groups. I actually had a lot of fun in the class and I highly recommend it.

Best English Teacher ever. Like others have said, you read interesting stories and write an essay on them. She drops your lowest essay grade. The essays aren't too tough either and the class activities every week really help with building ideas for your essay.

Joan is awesome! The class is always fun to go to. It's mostly opinionated and a lot of group discussions. She's helpful, and homework is really easy. There are a lot of papers to write. But I throughly enjoy taking her, she made me laugh every time. If your looking for an easy english class, then take her!!!
