Can't believe this guy got so many good ratings maybe others had a different experience, but I was an honors Math student in high school and took his calc class and he was the worst teacher ever. Two exams were our grades for the whole semester. Took this at another school and got an A. Some of you wasted money on this guy like I did.

Prof. Brunette is passionate about Math & it's infectious. It's a tough class, HWs are given, but not graded, one needs to work on the HWs to really ace this class. Pay special attention to Proofs. The exams are moderately difficult, but grading is easy, there will be 1 or 2 out-of-the-box-thinking-required kinda questions. Highly Recommend Prof.

If you actually want to LEARN Mathematics, John is your man. The approach that he takes to mathematics is bottom up with EXACT reasoning and terminology. You do not HAVE to do homework, as it is not graded. Pay attention in class, and ask questions if you don't understand something, John always seems happy to help out. Wish I could write more...

Amazing math teacher. His lectures are great--pay attention to the lectures, re-write your notes often, read and take notes of the textbook, memorize definitions, and you will be set for his exams. Exams are incredibly fair.

Knows the material inside and out. Is passionate about math and teaching, and genuinely cares about students. Grades solely on exams and the exams are tough. If you pay attention and ask for help when you need it, you get a thorough understanding of calculus and a better understanding of math as a language. Would take him again, as often as I can.

Old school, class is almost entirely graded on a few very challenging exams, which he grades quite harshly. He is brilliant and a very likeable man. I respect him a lot, but I never want to take a class with him again. He is great if you are very strongly motivated and interesting in Mathematics. If Math isn't your field, then don't take him.

Couldn't choose enough positive tags above. Best math teacher I've had. Does his best to be as clear as possible. You can tell he is very passionate about teaching the student. If you have to take any math take it with John Brunette.

John Brunette is a fantastic teacher if you even have a minimal interest in mathematics. He's not meant for the faint of heart because he tries to pierce yours with a love and complete understanding of the concepts at hand. He us of the few professors in the entire university that understands that he doesn't want to waste you money or your time.

Not a terrible teacher but a complete jerk. He took points off my test because he didn't like the way I wrote my zeroes. He is the kind of teacher that makes you feel stupid for asking questions. However the material taught is excellent, the class is engaging, and you do learn a lot of calculus. I just hate him as a person.

John is extremely conceptual in his approach to all his Mathematics classes. He aims for understanding rather then a formula, "plug and play" approach. Always willing to assist students and is extremely passionate about math as a whole! This class was not the easiest, but I received a valuable education on Multi Variable Calculus!

John is the type of professor whose interest in a subject is contagious. I was not interested in Calculus before, but now I may be minoring in Math. If you are willing or interested in this subject at all, your looking at a bonafide math professor - something that's always worth while.

Comment:
Class is proofs, homework has nothing to do with tests. The teaching is completely disconnected from test. Great if you want to know why math works but tests are a nightmare. I enjoy the challenge but feel there is no way for me to succeed in the class since homework is useless for test and lectures are just proofs... no matter what you lose.

John is very old school, does not like to use actual numbers or answers just how to find them. Pretty hard to follow along a lot of the time. Means well just does not relate to students well.

Up: Teaches concepts, not plug and chug. He was very approachable and always available to explain things in his office. Down: Tests on theory but doesn't assign homework on theory. His grading also became mildly unfair at the end. I received half credit for several questions which were correct. Someone else was completely wrong and scored better

Tests on concepts of math, so even if you know how to do a problem by solving it, you wont get an A without knowing how to explain how math works by definitions. Ask questions in class, very helpful office hours.

John is an excellent teacher! He teaches you how & why math works, not just memorizing formulas. If you really want to learn and understand math, i def recommend taking him. If you're just trying to take a required class & you don't care about math, maybe not the best choice.
