This class was the biggest disappointment. The syllabus wasn't even prepared when the semester started, he changed many things on us multiple times. Highly disorganized. Spoke english way to often for a french course. Would never take a class with him ever again. He was not helpful at all, his lectures were unplanned and never clear.

Whoa, I think he gave most of us an A in the class from what I gather. Interesting way of teaching: he weaves together the ideas and opinions voiced by the students. The books were slightly difficult; some refused outright to read the Genet. He seems such a nice guy. Too bad he has since left UCI.

This class is pretty boring to sit through, but the good thing is if you take really good notes, you can will have all the info you need for the papers. Attendance is mandatory. Act interested and try to participate. The grade consists of two papers.

Really cool instructor! Even though this was his first time teaching HumCore discussion he brought up a lot of supplementary texts that were relevant to what we were learning which showed that he was always actively thinking about the curriculum and how to make it easier for students to relate to. Easy grader on essays. Really nice guy too.

Lenient and helpful, pretty generous with grades. Class sort of lacks structure but once you get used to it it's cake. The lectures are quite intesresting and he does a good job of connecting it to current events

This class was basically torture to go to. It was extremely boring, but all you had to do were 6 1-2 page papers and a final paper. Culbert tended to just mumble about the text, but it did not matter because the papers were on the books and what you read, not what he lectured on. If you’re looking for something interesting I do not recommend.
