Comment:
This class was fairly straightforward and Dr. Maltese is a fair grader. Definitely keep up with reading so it doesn't pile up and you know what's going on in class. Lectures are interesting and supplement the book well. Exams are a HUGE part of your grade but the good thing is they are easy to study for (but be sure to study well in advance).

I could go on about how much I loved this class - I learned so much. Dr. Maltese is a tremendous lecturer and makes difficult concepts easy to understand. While the class requires a lot of reading, studying, and overall effort, it's definitely worth it. Grade is based solely on four written exams. Must take for POLS majors and pre-law students.

Dr. Maltese is a great professor all around. The class is tough, but manageable if you go to class and listen to the lectures. Hell also meet with you outside of class and help you review before tests.

Maltese is the sweetest old man. He really cares and wants to help you. There are 2 identify exams/2 essay exams. They are hard if you don't study, you can definitely get an A if you do study. It's just studying different court cases and they all are the same topic. Definitely would recommend him and the class. There is no paper/no attendance.

Read his book every exam and did all the homework and could not get higher than a 70 on the exams. The material is interesting and my TA was good but always struggled on the exams. My class was a focus on the judicial system and was very detailed in court cases which made it confusing. Looking back I would have done better. DONT TAKE AS A FRESHMAN.

Maltese is the best teacher I've had so far at UGA. His lectures are interesting and he allows for discussion but does not require it. He is extremely knowledgeable about the material and makes it very understandable. Tests are all short answer/essay but fair; know the significance of the cases very well. I'm planning next semester around his class

He is a nice guy and a great Professor. But his Tests are very DIFFICULT and had issues with having trick questions. I had a strong A+ before the final and then only ended up with a B+.

Lectures did not have any visual aid, it was just him speaking at the podium. Most of the class found his lecture style very difficult to follow and take notes. Breakout sessions helped a lot, and helped bring my overall grade up. There is one large research paper, but if you put the time in, you can get a good grade.

Wayyy too hard for a political science class required by everyone to graduate. He teaches law classes in the 6000 level, and it shows in this class. Although he is a nice man, I would recommend ANY other teacher for this class. I worked hard, did all the readings, and the online homeworks and still struggled to make a B-

He is a really good teacher because he's good with keeping his own political out of the lecture and he knows his stuff. Although, he really focuses on Supreme Court cases on every test and his test can be pretty difficult.

Maltese if a good professor. He knows the material very well tells it in a story-like manor. However, a lot of your experience in this class is up to who your TA is. There are only 3 grades in the class and therefore it is a very difficult if you mess up one thing, say the midterm. Luckily the final is very easy.

John Maltese was fine. He was not very interesting, but after the midterm about half of the class dropped. it was difficult. all there is are two exams and a paper, so many people did very poorly. Do not take this class if you have a heavy course load. its not an easy A. there are plenty of easier us Gov 1101 teachers.

Dr. Maltese is a reasonable professor. He is very knowledgeable about the subject. He tends to ramble on about cases, but it is useful when it comes time to take the tests. Attendance is recommended, but if you just read the text you get a lot of the same information. He posts a lot of readings online, but explains them in class. Overall reasonable

Dr. Maltese makes confusing legal concepts really clear, especially if you go to office hours. You have to go to class and keep up with the material if you want to do well-cramming won't cut it. But the tests are really straight forward and are designed so you have the cases memorized before an essay exam. Great guy!

Dr. Maltese is one of the best professors at this university! He made Con Law interesting and fun and is always accessible outside of class. A must have for any poly-sci major.

Maltese is one of my favorite POLS professors. I took Con Law: Powers and it might be the best class I've had in the major. He is VERY nice and the combination of lecture and discussion definitely prepares you for tests and papers. You get lots of good legal reasoning skills in the class.

If you are political science major it's a good class to take. If your not, you'll probably get lost but not because of Maltease. But he is great at keeping the subject matter clear and lets your know exactly what to focus on during lecture. I absolutely suggest taking this teacher and the class.

I enjoyed his class. The only reason I didn't get an "A" is because I didn't do my part. He allowed a lot of class discussion and didn't try to push his own agenda.
