Slovak is awsome! Be ready to ask questions in class or he'll start asking you questions! The book and mastering biology are the tests in a nutshell and he is great about explaining something you're confused about! He doesn't give extra credit but if you pay attention and study you don't need it! PSA student and loved him!

Its pretty bad when you make 500 notecards on your first exam in genetics and you make a C. A lot of material isnt covered because he is too lazy to make his own exams. This is the first class I have ever gotten a B in and Im a senior (4.0 GPA) at TAMUC. They need to hire someone that has a biology degree. He has zero passion for his students.

TAMUC should hire a professor that has an biology degree instead of someone who has a business degree. He rushes through his PPTs and calls on students to embarrass them. I made 500 notecards for each exam and made a C in the class ... Because he uses test banks a lot of the questions were over material we didnt cover in class or in the book!

This was the worst professor I've ever. He didn't care about his students at all. Didn't give test reviews or curve the exams and also had online assignments due during a break but failed to inform anyone beforehand. He also had a business degree instead of a science degree. Don't take his class especially if you're a PSA student. No extra credit.

He's a very good teacher and really does want you to do well, but you will have to work for it. The lab and the homework assignment have weight in your grade so be sure to do well in those if you are really struggling in the class; it might save your grade.

This class is definitely NOT hard, but you do have to put time and energy into it in order to get a good grade. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK and you will be just fine. Do not take this course unless you are seriously considering attending medical school, veterinary school, etc. This class requires lots time, but if you are willing to work, you can't fail.

I have no idea why Dr. Slovak is rated so low. He is an awesome professor! He's very down to earth and legitimately likeable. His cadence when speaking is kind of like a high school coach, but it's not terrible. As long as you pay attention in class, he won't call you out.

As long as your willing to work hes an excellent teacher. Give good lectures that keep you involved. Nice guy who will help you if needed. He does grade hard but for someone trying to enter into the medical field its what is expected.

Do NOT take this class with this professor if you have a choice. There was no other professor teaching this course, so I had to choose him. He seems knowledgeable in the subject and teaches on a surface level, but does not prepare you for his tests. THEY ARE HARD. He is unreasonable and does not care about his students, or their grades.

BSC111 (Intro to Biology) is an introductory course more for teaching critical thinking skills than actual biology. Slovak is a cool professor if you're an adult and behave as such, but if you act like a kid (don't read the chapter, play on your phone in class, etc) you will be treated like one. Great instructor to set standards by.

Will call a random name on the roster and ask you a question and make you feel dumb for not knowing the answer. Yells a lot. The online homework are usually the questions on the test. Went to seek help during office hours & got yelled at some more. Said "I'm here to scare you into changing your major." Beware. The nightmares haven't left.

Very knowledgeable guy. Like a few others have noted, his exams are hard. Being an introductory course, his class can give you a run for your money. Pay lots of attention to illustrations/diagrams and not just text. You should also study the online homework quizzes if you want to do well - they are more than a filler grade.

Wow... I had him for bio 1406 and let me tell you. This man's exams were extremely difficult. And even though I studied I still barely made a B for the semester. Thank the vio lab and mastering biology. I highly would not recommend this man to anybody ESPECIALLY if you're in the PSA like me. If somebody else is available, take them.

Man, this class was so hard. I got a warning that this man was difficult, but had no idea THIS DIFFICULT. He's the reason I changed majors. He was the only option for Biology 2, and if so... good luck! Rely on Quizlet, and your text book, it will be your guardian angel.

DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE OVER 15/16 HOURS. YOU WILL MORE THAN LIKELY FAIL. As a individual, he is very cool, but as a professor, he is a wrap (over and done with). He really made me think about changing my major, but I WILL NOT let someone do so. Please please please be careful taking this course for your own GPA.

Dr. Slovack is a great professor who teaches a lot from comparison and analogy, which is very helpful. Some students may be put off by some of his methods, such as randomly calling for answers, but he likewise will answer any question. His short essay questions on exams also allow for application of your own knowledge if youre prepared.

Professor doesn't have anything to do with students. Sent multiple emails throughout the semester for help or clarification and didn't even receive an email back. Very lazy with grading. Has no regard whether student passes or fails. (not that I would know since I've never had any interaction good or bad) Terrible, terrible professor.
