I had Jorge several years ago for three different classes. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. In my opinion he is the best professor in the Spanish Department. Jorge is also very kind.

Jorge was a great guy. For this honors seminar there was a weekly quiz which was very easy (he gave a study guide with questions straight from the quiz) 3 mid-term papers (4 pgs each) and a final 10 page paper. I felt he was an easy grader. Others in my seminar did not, however

At first you may think that this class is an easy A, however, you really do need to work for it. There is a quiz every week from the study guides which have the exact same questions that will appear on the quiz. Each student is assigned a chapter from each of the three books to write a review on with little to no grading rubric.

The nicest professor I have had thus far. His essays take a little time getting used to but you can usually get an A. Also he has a lot of readings but you can just search for key words on google books. Definitely take his class!

He is really nice, and always lets the 3 hour class go early. His essays have a bit of a learning curve, and there were open notes quizzes every class. He gives the questions out in the previous class. Understanding of everyone, overall not bad

Such a great professor. Very cute old man who knew us all before we even started the class. Really cares about how we do, so much that he gives us the copies of the exact quizes before we take them, drops the 4 lowest grades, and will even drop your lowest critical review grade. Class can actually be interesting, depending on the topic. Take him!

Professor Guitart is extremely helpful and caring. If you finish your essays early, he'll critique it for you. He takes the time to know you and he understands that we're tired students so he'll let you out early. Also, he drops some low quiz grades. Highly recommended!

Took one of his honors seminars. He grades essays pretty easily and drops some of the lowest homework grades. Always let us out early.

Guitart is pretty cool, but he's also a little lazy. He let our seminar out an hour, sometimes hours, in advance. Not that I'm complaining, but he rarely had anything planned and came up with lessons on the spot. He's intimidating at first but he's laid back. Hhe loves asking his students about their schedules... who knows.

Although the syllabus may seem intimidating on the first day, do not be worried! As long as you write your essays with a lot of integrated opinions, you will do fine! He's really interested in getting to know what everyone thinks. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help. Great teacher.

Professor Guitart is AWESOME. If you miss class, he e-mails the content you missed. He even gets concerned and will ask if everything is alright. If you finish a paper early, he will look it over and tell you what to improve. He loves his job and cares for his students. You need UGC211 to graduate, so take it with him. Favorite Teacher. EASY

Sweetest man when you get to know him. Make sure your class gets on his good side. Easily sweet talked. For my class, the first 2 quizzes were hard but then we told him. He then gave us GREAT study guides before the rest of the quizzes. Voice your opinions about the class because he is very willing to make changes. Loved him.

Like it or not, Dr. Guitart is widely regarded as one of the world's premier phonologists of the Spanish language. Literally, he wrote the book on it! You'll work hard in his class, but will be rewarded in kind. I have a great deal of respect for both the man and the academic. A beautiful mind!

I have one thing to say, thank God I had a legitimate reason for withdrawing from this class. A very intelligent person, but no teacher by far. How can you teach a phonetics class by lecture only? Teaching a class like this should involve the entire class, not just a grandstanding intellectual.

If you can read a book and absorb the material you will do fine in this class. Yes the quizzes may seem tough but they really aren't and he grades quite easily. Be sure that you are willing to argue with people and are willing to participate in class. This class can be a lot of fun if you are actually interested in the material.

Jorge was an amazing professor. I agree that his tests were difficult, even if you read, because they were so thorough, but if you do well on the papers and speak up in class you'll get a more than decent grade. He is the nicest guy ever, and the material he teaches is actually really interesting if you do the assigned reading. I loved his class.

Teaches the most difficult course I've taken at UB. Had to resign the course because the quizes were absolutely insane. Chose quiz questions specific to one paragraph out of 100 pages of text. Do not take a class from Jorge.
