Laurel was fine, and seemed to be lenient in her grading. I will say, lecturing isn't her strength. Often didn't let students get their full question out before assuming she knew what they were going to ask. That became frustrating because she was wrong A LOT. Despite her lectures, It's easy to get a decent grade in the class. She is really nice

Comment:

Ms. Young really cares about her students. That said, this class was more work that all four (those were all As) of my other classes put together. I got a C her class this semester after getting an A in high school biology two years ago. Even though BIO 110 is the Biology for non-science majors, this is a tough class. Be prepared to work.

Comment:

Laurel is a great teacher, and is very enthusiastic about biology. She's pretty forgiving about a late assignment here or there, and understanding that life gets in the way occasionally. Her tests are fair and accurately reflect her lectures. If you attend lecture, and just follow the study guides she provides, you can easily make an A or B.

I took this class online summer of 2013. This class had no text book. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone it might be better in person. Unless you have a lot of time to invest like 20hrs per week its alot of work.3 to 4 quizs per week a lab of around 10-13 pages per week due and a unit test a week.

No textbook for the class and the online materials were unclear and not very thorough. She told us to look to the internet but didn't provide any helpful links and had no interest in helping me until I told her I was dropping the class then patronized me for dropping.. I'm taking the same class with a different prof and not having a single problem

There was not a textbook for this class. She gave chapters to read online and pretty much said that we needed to use the internet to figure out the review questions, lab questions, and tests. I asked several times for help on the material and she sent me back long e-mails basically saying it was my own fault. Would NOT recommend her!

I took Young's online BIO 110 and I would NOT recommend it. She did not provide a text book or adequate learning materials, instead she said it's an online class and to find the info we need from the web. You will spend many frustrating hours googling answers.

I took the Bio 110 online course and was disappointed. Her on campus class my be better but i don't recommend the online course. A book wasn't required and she would post online reading chapters. These chapters didn't fully cover the material on her tests making the course difficult. I feel a textbook should be a requirement.

eh. she knows what she's talking about for sure, and has a great knowledge of Biology, but didn't like her much. she made rude comments quite often in class, never explained things well, assumes that "no one cares"...Meaning that no one cares about the class or even tries. She made this comment quite often in class...it got really annoying.

Excellent teacher! Goes above and beyond to make sure students have more than adequate knowledge of the material before a test. Tons of practice and application opportunities in both lecture and lab.

Ms. Young will give you work and you must study for her tests. However, her lectures are awesome, you will find yourself understanding amazing things. The class is not easy but that is no reason not to experience this amazing professor.

One of the best classes I have ever taken. The field trips were amazing. Laurel can walk straight up a mountain, she left the kids in the dust! She is a very committed and caring teacher. I "unretired" and went into teaching at AB Tech, with Laurel as a role model, mainly because of this class.
