Professor Estes is a nice guy. He is very passionate about British History, and this makes things more engaging. Every day you watch a movie and then write typically a comparison paper on about 2-3 of the movies. He grades decently hard, but got easier with his grading throughout the semester. There are no tests at all.

An all around fun class. Each class he gives a brief discussion/lecture to set the mood, then shows some amazing movies. The grade is based around 8 essays, which IS plenty of writing, but it was actually enjoyable work, and I found it nearly impossible to get anything lower than an A on them. Fantastic course for majors and gen ed students alike.

Lecture based class. It's almost scary how smart he is, literally knows everything. He gets super into lectures so if you're into it too, you'll enjoy it. Otherwise easy to bring laptop and do other work. Three 7-page papers, 1 midterm & 1 final. All essay/short answer with study guides handed out a week prior. A great class and great professor!

Class is based around writing a 10 page paper on a very specific topic. Very few homework assignments, very clear grading criteria. 1% off for every absence after the first 2. He drones on a lot, bring your computer and you can definitely get work done for other classes. Otherwise really great professor, this class doesn't do him justice.

Super passionate about the material. Gives good lectures. Not much work in this class, just a midterm, a final like two essays. Easy but interesting class.

I am a business major so I don't know a whole lot about history, but Professor Estes is fantastic. I listen to him lecture for hours simply because he is obsessed with Britain and knows almost everything about it. This class was such a treat - wish he taught more like it!

Ehh... This class was easy enough but incredibly boring, and I'm a history major! Professor Estes makes students present the material, never actually teaches anything. When you ask a question, he'll tell you what textbook to read instead of answering it, which is annoying. And he take 1% off your final grade for every day you miss, no exceptions.

Middle Ages: Easy class. Just buy the Humanism book. Take notes in class. Midterm was long, and the final is a combo of new material and info from the midterm. He gives out a study guide, so it helps. Three papers ALL due at the end of the semester. Easy! Just cite everything and you'll get full points. Highly recommended!!

He really cared about the subject and had a lot of first-hand knowledge, but I found myself falling asleep a lot. The textbook we used was almost completely useless. Also, a lot of the material on the tests were never covered in the lecture, so I had to do a lot of googling to get a good grade. Recommeded with hesitation.

A really neat, interesting teacher. All the class is, is reading/discussion in class. Then watching a movie and writing an essay comparing the two. It's a lot of essays but he is very kind on grading and an A is very attainable with a little effort. He wont learn your name but cares about what he teaches and gives some great lectures. Take him.

This professor really loves what he does and it shows. He is a good educator and it shows in his lectures and assignments. If you put in the work he will know and respect it and you should do very well grade-wise. He is also very willing to talk to you and help you out in office hours. A good, all round prof.

BEST FFC EVER! Loved it! Not just easy but a teacher who actually cares about what he is teaching. Grade consists mostly of essays but he helps you with them and reading books like Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy! Best FFC by far!

Exactly as previous reviewers said: read a book, watch a movie, then write about them. There are 5 essays, but he does grade easier as the semester gets on. Crystal clear about grading and assignments, even helps you with content of first essay. Teaches by having students discuss material in groups. Would take again, if only was history major!

It was a freshmen foundation course, Individualism. It was acutally pretty interesting and I really liked his way of teaching, having students discuss the topic. Lots of writing for that class but always got better grades than I expected. Very kind professor and easygoing. Seems to be serious but actually humorous at times :)

Dr. Estes is absolutly one of the best teachers at Chapman. He knows his material. His lectures are thorough, clear, linear and engaging. appeals to divergent learners through multiple modalities, film, plays etc. Interesting assignments. You will have to work, but hey that's why you are getting an education isn't it? good study guides exams.

Class consists of 3 essays, attending 1 Holocaust speech, and 2 exams! Gives a good study guide for exams-- identifying 10 terms and choosing 1 essay. Requires learning some material on your own. Overall, pretty good course, shows 2 movies!

Nice guy, though the lecture can be boring at times. Midterm and final consists of 10 IDs and 1 of 2 essays. Study guides are given 1 week prior to exam. He also shows Kingdom of Heaven and Name of the Rose. 2 papers, a castle paper and humanism paper. You become a person living in a castle of your choice and write about their lifestyle (10 pgs).
