Comment:
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER. knows a lot of stuff but is extremely boring, only wants to hear her own opinion, will not like it if you disagree or simply have a different opinion. did not make me a better writer at all.

She is very knowledgeable, but what are supposed to be class discussions often turn into her extended tangents/rambling. She also had very rigid ways of thinking. Even though her ideas would be interesting, she often wasn't receptive to alternative ideas, even if they were well supported.

Professor Sabin is incredible. She is so smart, interested in her students, engaging, and helpful. My experiences with her alone are sufficient to make me thankful for attending Wellesley. She is tough, but she is always ready to discuss your work and provide helpful feedback. She genuinely cares about students. Take a class with her!

She's a brilliant professor with so much to offer her students. She is great at guiding class discussion and goes out of her way to make her students aware of subtle nuances. She gives her class her all and takes a deep personal interest in her students. I don't think she's playing favorites b/c I see this positive regard for everyone in class.

I took Margery's Fiction of Empire & Breakup of Empire class @ Middlebury's Bread Loaf School of English. Very knowledgeable and willing to meet. Lectures were beneficial, but not enough discussion (85% : 15%). She can't resist jumping into student discussions with mostly relevant lecture responses. Lots of work, but good fiction-criticism parings.

Professor Sabin is a phenomenal teacher. She is brilliant and tough - she pushes her students to do their best thinking and best writing. Professor Sabin's classes are not for people who want to coast, they are for students who wish to improve their work; she teaches students to think in entirely new ways.

Comment:
Remarkably arbitrary and moody. Whatever I did she wanted the opposite. While she always told me my work was headed in the right direction, she never graded papers based on what I had written, but what she "wished" I had written. Class discussions always devolved into confirmations of her views and opinions. Avoid this prof.

I took Irish Lit from her 1st year and Ulysses 2nd year. Some of my favorite classes in all my years at Wellesley (200-04). She's great about allowing people to express their views in discussion, while making sure she controlls it enough to keep it moving. She's intimidating b/c so intelligent, but easy enough to talk to once you get to know her

Unbelievably rude, obnoxious, unhelpful, and arrogant. When I went to her office during office hours to discuss a paper, she literally told me to go away and not come back. She plays favorites and grades based only on how much she likes you. She is so rude that it defies comprehension. She should retire. She is too arrogant to teach. A jerk.

A terrible professor. The class, when I had her, was supposed to be Brit. Lit. survey. Every piece we studied, however, was on India because she was writing a book on the subject. She should have retired years ago, even before I graduated in '93.

While she's not the most engaging lecturer, I found Margery to be extremely intelligent. She was interesting and helpful in office hours, and I always felt like she was interested in her students both personally and intellectually.

One of the worst professors I had at Wellesley. Totally uninspiring and unapproachable. She needs to retire.
